Marriage: What is a wife?

Sketching by the river bu William Kay Blacklock
Let thy fountain be blessed:
and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
(Proverbs 5:18)

You're the mother who bears him is children;
You're the nurse when he worn out and ill;
You're the hand in his hand when he's lonely;
You're the star shining over Life's Hill;
You're the strength of his home when he's worried;
You're his solace when things go all wrong;
You're the listener to all his worries;
You're the laughter that gives Life its song;
You're the comforter in his despairing;
You're the sharer throughout all his life;
You're the girl who he ardently married;
You're his woman, his love, and his life.

Most importantly, you are his helpmate and companion.

Marriage is on the decline, the importance of being a wife or husband is no longer considered important. Marriage is not celebrated as something wonderful and special - something to be cherished and protected. How often do you read in the newspaper about the latest divorce, rather than those that are lasting, those that are strong and enduring.

I think many young modern women would look at this list above and say that her husband "can get on with it" and he doesn't need her to lean on. Or she would say "what about my problems"?  And that is part of the problem with marriages these days . . .  husbands and wives no longer think about the other exclusively, they think more about themselves and what is in it for "me". No one says marriage is easy . . . believe me, I know that for sure, but like all good things it is worth giving it your very best.  It is a race worth winning.

Marriage is a very precious thing and we need to take great care of it.

And the LORD God said,
It is not good that the man should be alone;
I will make him an help meet for him.
Genesis 2:18

  2. I SO agree! It is very precious - and it is also a holy institution, something God designed for man and woman... And as such, we ought to treasure it and put our whole heart into it! :)

  5. So beautifully said my friend. It is said that marriage is 50/50...but it is truly intended to be 100/100. We must give our all and expect nothing in return. Most often, this is when we are blessed with more than we can imagine!

    Blessings!
