Playing in the kitchen

My husband and I have been experimenting with infused oils - here are our latest projects.  One is chillie (not hard to tell) and the other is garlic and rosemary (from the garden).  They are now into their second week and according to our son, they smell great and ready to use! So much cheaper to make your own than to buy them infused. I also think they look great on the shelf.  I love those "chillie fingers".

  1. They look really pretty, Jo! I've never tried anything like this. You'll have to tell us how they taste. :)

  2. Clara - they don't overpower the food, just add a sutle taste of what every you have used. These infused oils are quite expensive in the shops and as I buy my oil in bulk it is much cheaper and fun to make at home.

And as you say they look pretty too!!

  5. What a creative idea! The chilies and herbs look so artistic in the bottles! :)

Oh, I enjoyed reading your last post regarding condensed milk as well.

Hummm . . . I "smell" nothing but beautiful homemaking ideas from these last two posts. :)

  6. Nell - I used "Red Island" that I bought from Costco in a 4 litre tin (cheaper than the supermarkets). The bottles I have recycled. I recyle all my jars now, never know when I might find a use for them!!

  8. Jilly - they are very simple to make,

    1. find a jar with a that has a big enough opening to place chillies or garlic - make sure it is clean and dry.

    2. place peeled garlic and rosemary (if you wash the rosemary make sure it is dry).

    3. Pour in oil to completely cover the garlic and rosemary - let sit for a week of so. It should then be ready to use.

If using chillies - leave them whole, no need to cut.
