About me

About me

My name is Joluise, I am a 40 something (!) married wife and mother.  We have been married for over 20 years and have two sons, 2 dogs and 2 cats. The eldest (son) is 24 and has set up his own home with his partner Kat. Our youngest son is 19 and has completed school and in search of employment. Like most parents, my sons keep me busy in prayer as they need as much guidance as possible.

I work full-time and have been for a number of years. I am blessed with a job that is flexible, allowing me to take leave when I need to and one that doesn't leave me exhausted by the end of the day.  Even though I am not a stay-at-home-mum, I am still very much the keeper of our home and I see my role as creating a home of peace and refuge from the world.

I live in Australia in  the beautiful city of Canberra.

What do I believe in

I was brought up in a very conservative Christian home by two loving parents who shared their love of the Lord Jesus Christ with me and my brothers. However, I was not a good teenager and I wandered far away from the gospel, getting into all sorts of trouble.  Like the lost sheep, the Lord found me and brought me home in His loving arms. I am not a perfect Christian and I have many faults and struggle with the world and all its temptations.  The Bible is my daily guide and instruction book, but sometimes I wander off and do my own thing . . . humans are a bit like that, we sometimes think we know best.

I believe in submission to my husband, even though he is not a Christian himself (which I leave in the Lords hands).  As a wife of an unbelieving husband it is important that he "see Christ as often and as clearly as possible when they look at us. He is the Light we are to let shine, not by striving to impress our husbands, but by nurturing the presences of Jesus within us" (from Unbelieving husbands by Ann Velia)

I am a skirt wearing Christian and rarely wear anything else.  I love to be feminine and pretty and skirts are part of this.  I love pink!

Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God (Job 37:14)

Some of the things I love to do
  • baking and cooking - I love to make breads, cakes, biscuits, jams, chutneys and sauces and like most mums, I cook the evening meal.  I very much believe in cooking all our food from scratch even though it might take longer
  • working in the garden growing flowers and vegetable
  • photography
  • embroidery
  • card marking
  • reading - I particularly like non-fiction, the lives of others are often far more exciting than any novel.
  • Bible reading
  • blogging
  • art history - not so good at being an artist!
  • old fashion movies and period stories such as "North and South" or "Pride and Prejudice"
  • talking with my cats

Some of the things I am not that good at
  • sewing - the basics only but trying to learn more
  • knitting - I have made one jumper and a scarf!
  • crocheting - in fact I can't do this at all
  • lacework - I wish I could, but I can't
  • cross stitch - can't see well enough!
  • all sports !! - yuck - hopeless, have 2 left legs
