Favourite DVDs

Here are a few of my favorites that I have watched recently

Non-fiction
  • Victorian Farm/Victorian Christmas (link) - what was life like on a Victorian farm, this series is both informative and fascinating to watch as you travel back in time to the Victorian age, to the introduction of machinery.
  • Victorian Pharmacy (link) - Ruth from the Victorian farm is part of this series on the establishment of the modern pharmacy - this was an excellent series.
  • Victorian Kitchen (link) - life in a Victorian manor house
  • Tales from the Green Valley (link) - this is an excellent 12 part series that goes back in time 400 years and recreates a farm in the Welsh borders, a very interesting and well done documentary.
  • Home with the Georgians (link) - what was life like at the time of Jane Austen, the role of women, setting up home.
  • Casualty 1900 (link) - 10 episodes recreating life on the wards in 1906, 1907, 1909 with characters and events taken from the London Hospital records, nurse's ward diaries and intimate memoirs, these gritty medical series show the lives – and forbidden romances – of pioneering doctors and nurses a hundred years ago. A great watch.
  • Babies (link) - this is simply adorable - if you love babies, this is a must watch.
Fiction
  • Foyle's War - seasons 1-6 (link) - set in wartime Britain, very British
  • North and South (link) - based on the books by Elizabeth Gaskell - what can I say, just beautiful.
  • Cranford (link) - another of Elizabeth Gaskell's books, this time about the lives of five elderly women and the town of Cranford in which they live.
  •  I am David (link) - need tissues for this one, beautiful.
