Pinning at Pinterest

You might have noticed down my side bar a button "Follow me on Pinterst".  Yes, I have joined a pinning craze along many many other people around the world. Its fun!!

Some of my folders are for sheer enjoyment e.g. "Cats and other cuties" or "Feminine clothing" - they are things I like and enjoy looking at - they really don't serve any other purpose. Some folders such as "Flowers" and "Nature and Beauty" are full of beautiful photos that I will use in my blog.  This saves me hunting for a photo when I need one, now I have a collection waiting to be used.  It is a great storage facility.

However it can be used for really useful purposes e.g. "recipes" - I am starting to build a collection of my favourite online recipes - in particular bread recipes.  Websites such as Taste (link) now include a "Pin it" button so when you find a recipe you like, it is so easy to pin-it back to your Pinterst account. This will become a well used online recipe book and one I can share with others.

The art of homemaking folder

The uses for Pinterst are endless and I can see why it has become so popular. I can imagine it be very useful for homeschooling ideas - gathering things together into one place. Planning a wedding, home renovations, favourite books to read, sewing projects etc....  The other part I like is "re-pinning" links from another account to yours, this is easy and quick - and it has been what I have been doing latterly.

Yes, like all things you could get addicted . . . but with some self control (eg set aside 10 mins a week) - you can be re-pinning some great ideas.

More and more blogging ladies are joining the craze - you don't need to join to visit or select photos - this is another way of enjoying the collections but being directly involved.

Some have concerns regarding copyright - this is something that does need to be considered, however at this stage I plan to continue and I think more websites are going to encourage the "pin-it craze" as in the recipe sites.

  1. You are not alone in your new passion. It is a neat way to bookmark things though.

  3. Oh, that all looks so, so tempting. So far I've been holding back on Pinterest, but it does seem to be such a source of good ideas.

  4. Amy - I would often find links (eg recipes) that I really wanted to keep but didn't know where, this solved that problem. Certainly the recipe component has been so useful as my sons can look up recipes I have stored there without hunting around. It is also very useful for craft ideas as well.

  5. Yes I joined pinterest purely to store homeschooling ideas somewhere! It's been great for that for me. I don't follow anyone etc. just don't have the time at this stage of life.

  7. I have visited pinterest several times, but at this point I don't have time or desire to join in! I like your collections though, and it is a good idea if you have a good portion of self-control so as not to become addicted!! :)

    1. Clara-I am using my recipe folder the most, as an online cookbook and it has been so handy. It means I can share recipes with my sons easily (even when they aren't at home).
