Art update: Albert Namatjia

This is an update on a art story I ran last January (2012) on late Australian Indigenous artist, Albert Namatjira.  You might remember this painting.

Sadly someone came along a few weeks ago and burnt the two trees that Albert Namatjira painted in the above painting (including the scrub land around the two trees). Why would someone do something so nasty, but regardless of the importances of these two trees, why destroy any of these trees?

Before the ghost gums were burnt down (below).

Very sad, considering the Northern Territory government were trying to preserve these trees and make sure they wouldn't get damaged. To late now.

  1. I heard about this on the news but I didn't know both trees were burnt down. That painting was hanging somewhere in my school when I was a child, I can't remember where but I often walked past it, I remember it well.

So senseless and foolish, even sadder for them if that is what their heart is like,
