Encouraging bible verses for those dark days

My son needs to look for new rental accommodation as soon as possible, unfortunately rent here is very expensive (one of the worse in the country) and as a result this will be a difficult exercise. This is something he really doesn't need to face at this time, and I know it will completely stress him out.  In turn, it will cause me to worry and stress too - I already have a headache just thinking about it. However, knowing this even before the problem starts, before the panic sets in, before the stress starts to make me feel ill - I can do something about it. I can pray and call out to God for help. It means that I can skip the worry and fear and more straight to having faith. A verse like this one says so much, all we need to do is TRUST and have FAITH and He will take care of us.  It couldn't be simpler, however we (or is it just me) seem to struggle with this.

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you

There are so many verses in the Bible for times like this - I have only picked a few of my favourites, I am sure you have favourites that you lean on when times are tough.  We just need to remember that He can hear us call, no matter where we are and how tiny our voice is - we just need to call.

I sought the Lord, and he heard me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
(Psalm 34:4)

* Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)

* Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Philippians 4:6)

* Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)

* The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.  (Deuteronomy 33:27)

* Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)

* Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?  (Jeremiah 32:27)

* And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.  (Romans 8:28)

* Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. (Psalms 37:5)

* My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (James 1:2-4)

* The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. (Psalm 9:9-10)

* God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.  (Psalm 46:1-3)

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. (Psalm 56:3)

  1. These are some verses that we should all have written around our house, and commit to memory in these days more than ever. I pray that your son finds what he needs quickly. The Lord does always take care of us (perhaps not always quickly as we think we'd like, but He is always our Provider isn't He?).
    Blessings,
    Pam

    1. Pam, I need some of these in the bathroom so I read them first thing in the morning - and I am know they would be such a good way to start any day. Better than any coffee.

  2. Dear Jo, Please read these verses aloud a couple of times a day! Declare to this situation what God's Word says!!
I am praying right now also.
Remember, what looks like a problem is usually and answer on the way!
    Yours, Roxy

    1. Its very true Roxy - problems always look bad at the start, but after a while (and often with the help of a friend) they start to look so much easier and finding a solution becomes possible. I love these verses and read them often :))

      Blessings :)

  3. This is an excellent collection of encouraging verses, Jo! :)
We pray always for you and for your son. The Lord is there and always will be there for you - and for us and for anyone else who is in trouble.

Lately the Lord has been teaching me another lesson about troubles... They do NOT fall outside this commandment: "Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
It's not easy to rejoice in difficult times. And it's especially not easy to be thankful for difficult times - and yet God knowingly had that verse written in there, to instruct us to give thanks even when times are tough. So I've started playing the "glad game" or the "thankfulness game" as I call it - we (as a family, or individually, depending on the situation) try to find something(s) to be thankful for even when it seems like something horrible is happening. It certainly turns your thoughts around - and can help with the fear and worry that usually accompany trials!

    1. It can be very hard to rejoice when times are hard - but after feeling down yesterday I was chatting with a friend and she suggested we both have a look at Allhomes (two heads are always better than one). From this we found one very promising suburb where the prices weren't too bad. Things didn't look quite so bleak afterwards.

I like the idea of writing down something to be thankful for - I have a notebook that I am using as part of my "Excellent Wife" journey and I might use the back of that to write down one thing per day to be thankful for. Thanks for that.

  5. Hi Jo, reading your post and I feel like I'm there with you. Your name is JO use it to mean Jump Over, jump over your trials, your worries and your fears. Turn to 2 Chronicles 20 and claim the assurance that there lies as your own. When Jehoshaphat looked around all he saw was defeat but then he cried unto the Lord and said, "I have no might in this thing but my eyes are upon you." and the Lord answered him and said, be not afraid nor be dismayed by reason of the multitude for the battle is not yours but God's."

Just keep your eyes on Jesus my sis, He will take care of the Moabites and Ammonites for you.
