Art Friday: Part 2 Favourite artists
Part 2: Favourite artists
I have posted just over 200 Art Fridays since 2010. Some have received very little notice, whilst others have been very popular (visits more than comments). Over the next two weeks I am going to post those that have received the most visits (excluding those that have been targeted by annoying scammers etc). Can you guess which ones have had the most visits? I doubt you will because I was very surprised. In fact those most popular are an odd collection to say the least.
6. Holly Hope Banks
5. Steve Hanks
4. Antony Gormley
Beach full of metal male sculptures |
Room full of pottery people! Most of you didn't relate to this one when it was first posted! |
3. J M W Turner
2: Dogs
And finally - who was the most popular?
1. Thomas Kinkade
Did you expect to see of these on my most popular list?
****
I was glad to see Kincaid! It shows that many people are still interested in old fashioned charm!
ReplyDeleteI think he will remain popular for sometime. Have a lovely weekend and 4th of July.
DeleteThose are great, except for #4! But as for the rest, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who likes realistic artwork ;) It doesn't surprise me that Thomas Kincaid is the most popular - his artwork is incredible. I went to his gallery in Tennessee when we were there, and they had the lighting a particular way so the paintings were only just lit, and the light in his artwork just jumped off the paintings, it was incredibly beautiful. They took on a life of their own.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw "Starry Night" by Van Gogh I was blown away by its beauty and the amazing colour and light. It really had a life of its own. No reproduction in a book could reproduce the colour. I completely understand where you are coming from. I think the average person on the street appreciates art they can relate too and therefore struggle with modern art.
DeleteI don't know if my other comment went through, but I love the paintings, and hope you are well!
ReplyDeleteI had a check and couldn't find any other recent comment from you so I am assuming it didn't work:(
DeleteThankyou for stopping by and I am very glad you enjoyed the paintings.
I'm not so keen on all the art here, but I'm not surprised that Thomas Kinkade was number one. :-) He's very popular in the U.S., and I suppose in some other places as well. It was sad that he died early.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite from this group is No. 4. I love the fruit and flowers. :-)
I'm not a huge fan of Kinkade, he is is perhaps too chocolate box art for me - of his works, I prefer his more urban street scenes which are less so. I particular like Holly Hope Banks on this list.
