Block one of my nine block sampler is complete - Ohio Star.
This one has been hand stitched and I am not the world's best hand sewer but nevertheless it has turned out quite well for a beginner. Mid way through this I started to dislike the colours - until I placed the centre fabric then it all looked so much better.

I can already see one error that I need to fix. The remaining quilt will be machined sewed so it should become easier and quicker. |

This is such pretty fabric |
For those wanting to know what we have learnt in the quilting class: firstly we learnt to draft our own patterns (on large graph paper). From this we cut out the shapes to use to draw around on the fabric.
|
Once I have drawn around the shape, I use my 1/4 inch ruler to draw an outline. This is the line I cut. |

Pencil lines on the fabric |

The centre piece fabric is delightful, really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful and reminded me of a book I own about the Edwardian lady who filled her diary with drawings like these.
DeleteBeautiful fabric choices, and lovely work, Jo. I've never seen a 1/4" ruler like yours before - it looks super handy!
ReplyDeleteThe 1/4" ruler is very handy and was part of our quilting package that we were given as part of the course. You would probably find it on line or at quilting stores. We were also give the large graph paper book and the heavy duty clear plastic to make the templates.
DeleteGorgeous colours, your choice of fabrics appear to be made for each other, very pretty :)

Thanks Tania - choosing fabric seems such a hard thing to do - especially when you stand in a shop that has 100's of beautiful options!!!
DeleteThe colors in this block work very well together and really accent the fussy cut block in the center nicely. Looks like you will be learning a lot. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying those fussy cuts!! We are learning a lot and I am discovering I have a lot to learn!!
DeleteI LOVE these colours so much & those particular prints look fantastic together :-)
