Take the world, but give me Jesus

Fanny Crosby was talking to one of her neighbours, who complained bitterly of his poverty. “If I had wealth I would be able to do just what I wish to do; and I would be able to make an appearance in the world.” Fanny replied, “Well, take the world, but give me Jesus.” She was here inspired by her own words to write a hymn with that title. What would you do - keep all your belongs and wealth or take Jesus?

A silly question I know, but one we all should think about from time to time especially when we get bogged down in "life" and busyness.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)

~ Take the world, but give me Jesus ~

Take the world, but give me Jesus,
All its joys are but a name;
But His love abideth ever,
Through eternal years the same.

Take the world, but give me Jesus,
Sweetest comfort of my soul;
With my Savior watching o’er me,
I can sing though billows roll.

Take the world, but give me Jesus,
Let me view His constant smile;
Then throughout my pilgrim journey
Light will cheer me all the while.

Take the world, but give me Jesus.
In His cross my trust shall be,
Till, with clearer, brighter vision,

Face to face my Lord I see.

F. J. Crosby

    1. I think these reminders are important from time to time as we can get so distracted with life.

  2. When I think of, for example, my home burning down, I think "what would I want to take out of it with me?" and all I want is my family and His Word - after all, you get used to the feel of your own Bibles ;) But He is all, and everything!
    love,

    1. As I read my bible on my electronic devices, it really doesn't matter a great deal if they aren't saved in a fire as I can always get them back (funny how times have changed, once the "family bible" was handed down through the generations, considered precious in many ways - now lost in our world of electronic books).
