My thoughts for October: Nothing lasts forever so use it!

My thoughts for the coming month

Nothing lasts forever. The new car won't be new for very long, the clothes we buy don't last, the appliances in our kitchen seem to die so much faster these days. Nothing lasts except the Word of God.

When I was young I was given the most beautiful candle. It was just too good to use, so I never burnt the candle and over time it got dusty, lost its lustre and in the heat of summer began to sag. In the end I had to throw it out. Sadly I never got to enjoy it when it was beautiful. Are you the sort of woman that hardly ever uses the best china or wear particular piece of jewellery because is too precious to wear? Do you have a sitting room that is just too good from the family to use, it is only for visitors? Do you have a special dress that hardly ever gets worn as its only for special occasions.

I think we all have items that are beautiful but never enjoyed.

Nothing lasts forever so why keep these things hidden away and never get pleasure from them. Why not use the best china with your family. Why not wear pearls around the house or to the shopping centre. Wouldn't it be sad to get to the end of your life and others find all these things in your cupboard which have never been enjoyed both those who you love just in case something happened.

Our earthly processions are only temporary and we cannot take them with us when we died. The Egyptians tried — surrounding themselves with their all their worldly things — it didn't help them at all.

I would like you all to look around your homes and see what you haven't use in ages and start using these beautiful things. Start to share with the family things that are only brought out for visitors — your family are far more important than visitors so why can't they enjoy these special treats.

What is the point of owning "things" that you never use, if they are collecting dust and looking sad get them out and give them life. To be honest, if a "good" plate is chipped, it only means they have been used and loved over the generations. A perfect set of china in the cupboard may have a monetary value but never enjoyed.

Ladies, even if you are at home all day, why not wear pearls (pearls are much happier when wore as they loss their lustre when not worn) and look gorgeous for your husband and children.

We can't take these things with us and they won't last forever, so use them!!!

Bible verses for the coming month

"While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18)

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. (Mark 13:31)

Hymn verses for the coming month

Fade, fade each earthly joy;
  Jesus is mine.
Break every tender tie;
  Jesus is mine.
Dark is the wilderness,
Earth has no resting place,
Jesus alone can bless;
  Jesus is mine.

Tempt not my soul away;
  Jesus is mine.
Here would I ever stay;
  Jesus is mine.
Perishing things of clay,
Born but for one brief day,
Pass from my heart away;
  Jesus is mine.

Farewell, ye dreams of night;
  Jesus is mine.
Lost in this dawning bright;
  Jesus is mine.
All that my soul has tried
Left but a dismal void;
Jesus has satisfied;
  Jesus is mine.

Farewell, mortality;
  Jesus is mine.
Welcome, eternity;
  Jesus is mine.
Welcome, O Loved and Blest,
Welcome, sweet scenes of rest,
Welcome, my Saviour’s breast;

  Jesus is mine.

  1. OH, You've given me something to think about. I have so much STUFF in this house. I need to get rid of a lot and enjoy what I keep. It will do me and my family no good just sitting here. Thank you for challenging me and exhorting me today.

    1. Let me know how it goes and it can be hard letting go of things I always find. I have a beautiful set of 6 bowls my mother bought me when I was about 12 and I have hardly ever used them, they are so delicate and have violets painted on them, I really must get them out and start to use them and enjoy them :))

  2. Good post! It is sad when precious things get broken and have to be thrown out, but we can't take it with us, so we might as well enjoy it =)

    1. We can still be careful with precious things but they were meant to be used and not hidden away in a cupboard to gather dust. In saying that, I have 6 very old crystal bowls that are so delicate and thin I doubt they can be used anymore without smashing, so they will have to remain in my cupboard.

  3. Awesome word. I am one who uses the china and even allows the grands to eat from it...I totally agree. Now the candle, well my grand ask about one the other day I have, I guess I will allow him to light it next time he is here.

    1. It is so much better to enjoy these things that let them get covered in dust and become unloved. Enjoy your candle.

  4. Very inspiring. It is indeed true that nothing last forever except GOD. His love is unconditional and everlasting. Visiting from Making Mondays

  6. What a great post. We do like to keep things "protected". I have some that I have put away to give to my kids, but I have those that I use a lot. I like the pearls around the house idea although I don't have any pearls.

    1. My mother gave me her pearls and she had several different lengths, I wear them quite often, even on Saturdays when I am at home :) I also have things I want my children to have but I do hope they use them and not just keep them in the cupboard collecting dust.

    1. When my mother went into a nursing home (sadly as a result of a stroke) and my dad remained in the family home he started to give away things to family members. Likewise my mother gave me some of her jewellery so could wear them and enjoy them whilst she was still alive. I don't understand it either. Have a wonderful week.

  8. I don't have any pearls - although I would love to have some!
    But I do have plenty of pretty china - we got some out recently to use... And I have fabric that has been saved for something "special" for a long time. I need to use it before it gets spoiled by age!
