Delight yourself in the Lord

Do you want to be safe from the influence, ways, and lusts of the world and the flesh?

Are you living in fear of this world and what might happen?

For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.(I John 2:16)

From the sins which so easily entangles us?

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. (Hebrews 12:1)

Then delight yourself in the Lord–in His provision, in His Word

Faithfully feed on the things that possess true substance and real meaning. By taking delight in the Lord our hearts will truly find peace and fulfilment in Him and nothing else will matter or stress us.

Remember that "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16) and partake of such divine substance, then you are fed, you are led and you are safe!

This world can never satisfy our deepest longings, but if we choose to delight in God’s way, He will always provide above and beyond our expectations. Jesus said "but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)

Many delight in wealth, status, material possessions, and other temporary things of this world, but they are never satisfied. Maintain our focus on the Heavenly Father and our needs will be met and true joy will be found.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

(Philippians 4:8)

  1. Dear Jo,
Thank you for this lovely post which reminds us of whom really is in control. The ugliness displayed by both candidates in the run up to the election, and all the vitriol out there even now by the media and so many people has been much harder for me to bear than the result.
It is as though people are searching for a person who can solve all their problems, and because no one can accomplish this but God and they cannot see this, they just become angrier and more disillusioned.
There is a huge spiritual hole in my country. Until it's addressed, people will still be looking for stability in all the wrong places. It's a losing proposition without Christ.

    Xx

  2. Pondering the word "delight." Your words challenge me to ask myself if I've settled for something less than delight -- endurance? The Word is clear that we are called to a life that delights in the ways of God. Thanks for this reminder.
