Who would you invite for dinner?

Image
The Dinner Party by Sir Henry Cole You are planning a  dinner party and you are allow to invite six people that most fascinate you, they need to be famous? Who are you going to invite? You need to have a combination of those who are alive today and those who have since died? Please note that you are not allowed to invite people from Biblical times just to make it a little more tricky.    Mrs Isabella Beeton (1836 - 1865): What a fascinating lady and she would be able to give me plenty of household tips and advice! Corrie Ten Boom (1892 - 1983): survivor of the Holocaust, author of many books including "The Hiding Place".  She would certainly be a great comfort and full of Elisabeth Elliot (born 1926): A remarkable lady who has been a missionary, mother, wife, author and has shared her love for Christ through her many books. Michael Palin (born 1943): British writer, documentary maker, traveller and comedian - all round gentleman ...

How times have changed

"Not soon enough. Laboratory tests over the last few years have proven that babies who start drinking soda during that early formative period have a much higher chance of gaining acceptances and 'fitting in' during those awkward pre-teen and teen years. So, do yourself a favour. Do your child a favour. Start them on a strict regimen of sodas and other sugary carbonated beverages right now, for a lifetime of guaranteed happiness. " Soda Pop Board of America Might explain some of the overweight issues we are having now with the older population. And now I know why I was a shy child - didn't drink enough soda. NOTE :Just check further on this ad and discovered its is indeed a fake - I must tell my collegue who pinned it up at work.  So easy to get sucked into thinks that look real.  Need to be more careful.  My apologies.  Have a lovely week.

Just for fun!!

Are you after a new clutch bag? Something simple? Why not this? Its a designer bag by Jill Sander and is considered a "fashionable throwaway".  And yes, it is made of brown paper . . .  and will cost you . . . $285 (Aus/USA). But if you would like the one made from leather which is more likely to last longer than paper, you will need $800.  And yes, people are buying them and one of the stockists in London has sold out of all their brown paper bags!! Disappointed :( The leather version - no handles! Or, what about this acetate one from the 2011 collection priced at $286 (Aus/USA) - and yes, this also sold out, very popular!!

Have you laughed today?

Image
Do you feel like this? Or this? Maybe you need to have a good laugh " Laughter brightens our good days and lightens our heavy times " Paul Meyer Laughter lifts you above the everyday stress and strain of life. It gives you a break from your exhaustion and worn-out ways. Besides it is PLAIN FUN . It re-energizes and rejuvenates you. Laughter is the antidote to dark days.   It adds sunshine to the your day and even to those around you.   " The most completely lost of all days is that on which one has not laughed "   But remember , not all laughter is good: cynical or derisive humour can darken our souls and feed our bitterness. ~ From " The worn out woman " by Dr Steve Stephens and Alice Gray ~ WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? NOW IS A GOOD TIME. ~oOo~

Friday Trivia

Image
Trivia to bring a smile to your face It is possible to lead a cow upstairs...but not downstairs ( fortunately I don’t own a cow or stairs to test this one ) *** A snail can sleep for three years ( none in my garden appear to be sleeping as they are too busy eating ) *** It takes up to four hours to hard boil an ostrich egg ( won’t be eating these for breakfast - what time would you need to get up! ) ***  A crocodile cannot stick its tongue out ( it is rude anyway ) *** If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee  ( hardly seems worth it ) *** Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people do.  ( if you're ambidextrous do you split the difference? ) *** Polar bears are left handed ( Who knew....? Who cares? How'd they find out, did they ask them?) ***   If Barbie were life-size, her measurements would be 39-23-33. She would stand seven feet, two ...

I've been tagged . . .

Image
I have been tagged by two lovely ladies, thank you Amanda at My Secret Garden and  Lady Rose at A Queen in Her Castle . Thankyou ladies. Instead of doing two of these I have combine the questions (as several were the same) - enjoy.    1.Where did you meet your husband, generally speaking? Workplace romance. 2. What is one of your most favourite movies? I couldn’t think of just one movie, so here are three favourites: “I am David”, “Miss Potter” and “An Affair to Remember”.  As to mini-series this would have to include: Emma (2009), Pride and Prejudice (BBC) and Jane Eyre (2006).   3. If you could have any career your what would it be? Owner of a small bookstore as in the movie “You’ve got Mail” with a little reading nook and perhaps a spot to enjoy Devenshire tea. 4. What character in the bible do you really relate to the most Elizabeth, she never ceased trusting God, even though she didn’t understand why she was still b...

Pretty amazing 3D animation.

Today's observations

Image
When you catch a bus you get the opportunity to observe the human race!!  Here are some of my observations from today: How did the blind man (sitting behind me) know when to get off the bus at his bus stop? Girls wearing very short short (uniform) skirts should be careful about bending over and sitting down. School children no longer give up their seats when adults get on the bus eg the elderly or woman. Why do young people (who don't have a seat) have to congregate at the front of the bus making it very difficult for people to get on and off? Why do people chew gum with their mouths open? Wearing black footless tights and a jumper does NOT make for a pretty sight   * * *  Australia has a new Prime Minister, the first woman Prime Minister (Julia Gillard) - what do you think, good, bad or indifferent? For those not familiar with our system of government, the previous Prime Minister (Kevin Rudd) was removed by his own party at a vote this morning, with the party havi...

A happy ending A pensioner in the UK, Jack Harris, finally completed a seven year project to build a 5,000 piece jigsaw (which he was given for Christmas in 2002).  However when he got the last piece he discovered it was missing.  He and his family could not find it anywhere in the house. The happy ending to this story, the company who manufactured the jigsaw,  Falcon Games LTD, has now come to his rescue by having a replacement piece sent to his home.  The puzzle is no longer made but the firm agreed to find the original design and make the one missing piece.   The retired businessman, believes the original piece may have been thrown away by mistake or eaten by one of  two dogs. The company have also sending Mr Harris a load of new puzzles from the range - although at 1,000 pieces some of these are slightly smaller. * * * * Attention to detail This made me chuckle at myself: A few months ago I bought a skirt from a on-line company in the USA – a...

Something lite and fluffy for a Wednesday!

As a cat lover, I found this very amusing.  In case you were wondering why "Rocky" the French cat was doing this - he wanted to see the birds through the window and couldn't unless he stood on his back legs.

What makes Australians different?

Image
I was wandering about on the internet today (yes, I was working - very hard!) and I came across the Australian Immigration website that lists "typical Australia slang": thought I would share them with you. bring a plate: when you are invited to a party and asked to 'bring a plate', this means to bring a dish of food to share with your host and other guests BYO: when an invitation to a party says 'BYO', this means 'bring your own' drink arvo: this is short for afternoon. 'Drop by this arvo,' means please come and visit this afternoon barbie: outdoor cooking, usually of meat over a grill or hotplate using gas or coals snag : sausages  chook: chicken/hen cuppa : a cup of tea or coffee loo or dunny: toilet to be crook : to be sick or ill shout: to buy someone a drink bloke: a man how ya goin ?: 'How are you going?' means how are you, or how do you do? It does not mean what form of transport are you t...

Beautfying potholes

Image
Found these photos on a website and thought they were funny (taken in Britain) - especailly at the moment with all the potholes we have around town (after the rains). They (the roads people) don't seem to be able to make roads that last even one heavy downpour - it can't be that hard to make roads that don't fall apart all the time - the Romans managed the make roads without all our modern technology and they have lasted for centuries. My local street has a number of potholes that are "patched" up on a regular basis - even the mending falls apart quickly.   How pretty our roads and streets would look with this mini gardens!!
