Art Wednesday: Guido Daniele

Image
Artist: Guido Daniele Birthplace: Italy in 1950. Hand and body painter ( no examples of body painting have been included ) I have seen these hand painting beforebut never knew who painted them or why. Guido Daniele attended Brera Artistic High School in Italy and graduated in 1972. In 1990, he developed a body painting technique, and his work has been used in advertising images and commercials, as well as fashion events and exhibitions.  His art only last as long as the photo is taken then the painting is washed off and gone forever. Here is another thing you can do in art class?   These were done as part of a series of work was commissioned by AT&T. I think these are pretty impressive.   Link to his website ~oOo~

Modern women: Living for the moment

Image
(Google image ) “ I mourn for the women of today " Melinda Tankard Reist, Australian feminist author and commentator said these words and I have to agree with her entirely.  I too mourn for the modern woman.  They are making a terrible mistake in the actions they are undertaking - all in the name of having a " good time ".   My definition of " having a good time " (both now and when I was a young woman) is very different for the modern young woman.  Now it means heavy drinking, sex with strangers, drug use, wearing clothing that reveals as much as possible and taking risks that put their lives in danger.  They don’t seem to understand (or want to understand) the long term consequences of their actions, they live for the moment.  The fact that the alcohol they are consuming (to the point of alcoholic poisoning) is causing damage, is simply not important to them. I believe the risk taking to the extreme is part of the thrill—the high...

Washing hair?

Image
(Google imagines ) Did you know that — dirty hair has become de rigueur for the most conventionally fashionable. Washing hair has become positively passe . Wow, things I learn from reading the newspaper!!!  (see full article ) This is a not conversation I would have with everyone —BUT  I use to wash my hair everyday. It is a job I don’t really enjoy as it involves the hair dryer and the hair straighter (for the fringe) and product (several different types).  Feeling a bit lazy I started leave my hair unwashed over the weekend and discovered that I could leave my hair a couple of days and it still looked fine. In fact, I doubt if anyone has noticed that I don’t wash my hair everyday.  It doesn’t go oily and at the moment hasn't lose its curl (so no flatness).  In fact the curl hasn’t looked better.   So far I have left it three days but I am sure it could last four (I know this doesn't sound very radical - but for me it has been!!).  It w...

St Marys Cathedral

Image
When I was in Sydney on holidays my dear cousin Clara and her family took me on a day trip into the Sydney city.  We caught the train from their home (1 hour trip) and spent the whole day sightseeing.  Something I hadn't don't' since I was a teenager.  It was fabulous. The first place we visited was St Mary's Cathedral near Hyde Park (Clara knew that I love looking at buildings!).  It is Australia's largest church, though not the highest (still very impressive).  The founding stone was laid in 1868 and in 2000, with the assistance of a grant from the Government to mark the new millennium, the spires were eventually built.  The completed spires of the main front enhance the view of the cathedral along College Street and particularly the ceremonial approach from the flight of stairs in front of the cathedral. Standing at 74.6 metres (245 ft), they make St Mary’s the fourth tallest church in Australia Side door of the church Front or perhaps the ba...

A kind word

(Google link ) Kindness is a yellow umbrella covering the rainy days of life. by Annie Engstrom Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless by Mother Teresa (Google link ) And remember the words  of the Lord Jesus, that He said,   'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'   Acts 20:35     ~oOo~

The start of my journey

Image
I started my journey by train-a perfect way to begin a holiday.  I rarely catch trains so this was quite a novelty but one I very much enjoyed and plan to do again.  I left Canberra at 6:45am which turned out to be perfect as I was able to  see the heavy frost on the grass and watch the sunrise over the hills.  Ready to leave. Seats were very comfortable and I was able to sleep for part of the trip. One very nice hot chocolate, perfect on a cold morning. The trip from Canberra to Sydney takes 4 hours, whilst a plane trip takes 29 mins (55 mins including waiting to take off, taking off and landing) so rail is not the fastest way to travel but certainly far more relaxing. No wonder the Victorians enjoyed it so much. Sunrise from the train - it was beautiful to watch unfold. A wind farm we past on our way.  Even though I would not want to live near a wind farm I do like their sculptural affect on the landscape. A creek we past on the way.  It was a very frosty...

Art Wednesday: Keith Cowlam

Image
Gulf of Cascogne Artist: Keith Cowlam (1946-  ) Born: United Kingdom, moved to Australia in 1977 Contemporary artist: Artist and print maker I don't know why I like these paintings - perhaps because some of the scenes look so familiar to me (places I went to as a child), or perhaps it is the contrast of the colours that attract me.  Or perhaps because these paintings capture summer, I can feel the warmth of the sun on my back and smell the summer grasses.  I don't know - but some reason I like these - even is they are very controlled and smooth. To my dear brother Nick (if you are reading this) - do these paintings remind you of your childhood?
