Its Friday :)

Image
I am feeling a little melancholy of late. Perhaps because it is the start of winter and it's turned cold  all of a sudden or just because of nothing much at all. The news of late has been so sad — in fact I have been reading the newspapers of late trying to find a good news story to share, to no avail. There just hasn't been any.  No wonder God asks us to only focus on what is good and pure to keep our hearts and minds from sinking into despair.   Anyway I really couldn't think of anything to write about today and with very few visitors these days, I am sure it will be ok to post a few pics of my darling cats who bring me much joy. Plus a photo of my shoes which I think are rather cute.  Lily and Ruby watching "Youtube for Cats" Ruby in charge of the washing.

Idolising poverty

Image
Some families are well off, other families struggle financially, some have periods of poverty, others have burst of wealth. We are all different when it comes to how much money we bring in each week, how much money is in the bank or how big or small our debts are.  We are all different, which shouldn’t surprise anyone.  However I have noticed a growing trend among some Christian families to share with everyone how poor they are, how much they are struggling, how old the washing machine is or all the things they do without. In fact some bloggers activity encourage women to give up their jobs and return home and live in poverty as this is seen as the ultimate Christian sacrifice (interestingly I have seen this done by women who are so much more financially better off which even worse).  Some families do exceptionally well on a very low income and others do very badly on a high income. However, what concerns me is the boastfulness of those who have chosen to l...

Why we shouldn't be surprised with inmodesty

Image
Christian women are often shocked and surprised at the level of immodesty in society today. No one should be surprised, in fact it is completely expected and its important to understand why.  Here is one modern view: Women choose their wardrobe based off of varying factors, including but not limited to: functionality, mobility, comfort, pattern, fabric, visual appeal (in the form of cut, style, and appearance on one's body), trends, emotional state, mental state, sexual appetite, and iconic influence. All of these aspects are okay, because they are all facets of who we are has humans. To assume we are all walking around in short shorts because we are seeking your attention is absolutely absurd. I wear short shorts in spite of external attention, because I enjoy the feeling of sunshine on my legs and the flexibility that they afford me in my active lifestyle. I don't appreciate the prying eyes, and as I am polite enough to refrain from overtly ogling the bulge your bi...

Arty Friday: Machine art

Image
Welcome to Friday. How has the week been. I thought I would end with something fun and arty. This is sewing machine art and its very clever (I think so). It is something I would like to try in the future when I have more time and not making quilts. It is great for all those scraps of fabric that one has lying around their homes. Enjoy.

Part 6: Christian working women - working from home

Image
Part 6: Working from home I have never worked from home so I decided to ask someone who does and find out what it is like to run a business from home (while homeschooling) and what advice would she give others considering it.  Thankyou Clara for your honest answers and I hope it is helpful for anyone considering setting up a home-based business. How difficult is it to time manage when running a home-based business? I have heard of some women who keep their work within certain time slots and that works well for them. To this point I haven't been able to do that and still meet the demands of my customers/workload. This means I have often put in 12-14 hour work days (6 days a week) and I've had to run my household from behind my sewing machine. This is something I've found extremely stressful - and the family has suffered for it.  As a result of these difficulties, at the beginning of 2017, my husband and I decided I should try something new - I sh...

Women of the bible: EVE

Image
Eve Eve means “life” or “life-giving,” or “mother of all who have life,” — And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. (Genesis 3:20) We all know the story of Eve. A woman born from man, who came into a world that was perfect in every way. She lived in Paradise, possessing every pleasure imaginable. She never knew the meaning of embarrassment, misunderstanding, hurt, envy, bitterness, grief, pain or guilt until she listened to her enemy and began to doubt God.  And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. (Genesis 2:25) One day as Eve was wandering around the Garden of Eden she met a very cunning serpent. She knew she wasn’t to touch or eat fruit from one particular tree — “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.” (Genesis 3:2-3) But the serpent was ver...

Thoughtful Friday: Keeping your marriage strong

Image
I found this great illustration by Norman Rockwell and wanted to use it today but needed to add something to make it more interesting. Driving and navigating really does bring out the worse in a some married couples — my husband and I have argued over directions on a number of occasions, he usually thinks I have got it wrong and I complain that he isn't listening. It doesn't often end well and can ruin a perfectly good outing.  Like anything this requires good team work, communication skills, the ability to not get angry, to accept when you are wrong and to enjoy the ride!!! Sounds like life doesn't it!!! So, here are some tips on how to build a stronger marriage and hopefully go on drives that do not result in arguments over directions!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 Talk to your spouse more kindly than you talk to anyone else in the world. Too often we speak the most harshly to those closest to us. Remember that marriage is less about marrying the right person and ...
