Clean the kitchen day
Enough of vacations - back to the domestic world ..... I am at home all this week on holidays (alone) and I thought Monday would be "cleaning the kitchen day". With the help of Ruby (you can see her in the photos "helping") I have spent the morning doing just that and it felt great. So far I have thrown away 3 bags of rubbish (old/broken plastic containers, lids with no bottoms, things I never use etc...) plus a bag of food past the due by date.
And this is what it looks like now ...... clean and organised ....... however non of the males (husband and sons) will be able to find anything for a while. Just have to mop the floor, but I will do that when I eat my lunch.
One thing I did do was move the herbs and spices - they were in a cupboard (slightly above my head) which that made it hard to see what I needed, now they are in the drawer (near the stove) and all I have to do is open and read the labels - should make looking for what I need much easier.
Whilst cleaning out the cupboards I had a few multiple items such as boxes of crackers (x3) and orange juice poppers (15) and quite a few cans of air-spray. Now you might think my house smells by the number of cans I have - which isn't really the case. I just buy a new can every-time I do the fortnightly groceries (out of habit) - this is what happens when you don't have a shopping list.
Is Ruby looking disapprovingly.... at least I won't need to buy any for a while - and yes I do like the smell of "lavender" and "ocean fresh"
Time for lunch.

Just had to share this photo - my husband decided to have a bath last night and Ruby thought she would join him as she loves playing with the bubbles. This is Ruby balancing along the edge of the bath-tub. No, she didn't slip in, but if she had I wasn't sure if my husband would get out of the bath tub without being covered in scratches. (P.S. the hairdryer you can see isn't plugged in and fortunately it didn't get wet)

Hey, I might get a guildty conscience if I read any more blogs where people are cleaning!
ReplyDeleteNice job!
Hmmm, you're doing better at your cleaning than I am at mine. May have something to do with the 'home alone' bit though. A whole week alone!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it feel wonderful to have a good clean out! It doesn't matter what room, it always feels wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love how Ruby was helping you. Curious little things, cats are lol.
I was preparing to say "ocean" and "lavender" must be your favourite scents... but you beat me to it by the end of the post lol.
I have sooo been there on clean out the kitchen day! Been there - done that! Our little kitties like to help also--. (Love your kitty pictures!)

Hi Jo,
ReplyDeleteI love cleaning out our kitchen - it always gives such a sense of achievement, doesn't it?
Our cats love helping, too, but the children help with the washing up, as nothing goes back into the cupboards without having its annual wash.
Ruby looks so much like my daughter's cat, Moonlight, and he, too, loves walking along the top of the bath. :) He even slipped in once when my daughter was in the bath, but both escaped injury!
Have a wonderful week,
Love and blessings,
Jillian ♥
I love giving my kitchen a good cleaning too and had to chuckle out loud when you got to the parts about the men folk NOT being able to find anything for awhile and the fact that you had 15 cans of room spray!!
ReplyDeleteI used to do the same thing -- buy a couple of cans of my favourite scent every time they were on sale until I realized that I wouldn't be needing any for a LONG TIME :o)
