Week 4
"roses and shells"
My family
Everyone is doing well this week. My youngest went and bought all the things he needs for school, including his own shoes (he just rings me to tell me how much it all costs). Children reach the point where they like to go off and do their own shopping, it is kind of sad. DH has been busy at work and enjoyed having Wednesday off to relax.

Cooking
Cooking tip: I couldn't work out why my bread wasn't crusty on top (like Italian breads) . . . after a bit of research I now have the answer (and it works) - when heating the oven include a baking tin and as soon as you place the bread in the oven add some ice cubes (3-4) to the very hot tray. This creates steam which in turn creates crusty bread!!! Italian bread is cook in a steam oven so I discovered!!
Gardening
My cherry tomatoes won't ripen, I have many tomatoes on the bush but they are all green - so far only one has turned red and when I ate it, it was very flowery (this is a worry). I am told it is the lack of warm nights, hopefully this week will change that. I planted chillies last weekend, I don't eat them, but my sons and DH certainly do. My youngest son is already sharing the chillies with his friends!! Chillies make a lovely potted plant. Bible reading
I am still working my way through Job and will be for a few weeks. The book I mentioned last week is brilliant, it covers each verse/chapter in huge detail and makes reading Job so much easier. From my morning devotional, this was my most favourite verse of the week: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Rev 21:4) - Life with God will be far better by far.
Out and about
My youngest son and I went out for morning tea on Friday. We went to a lovely little tea shop that both sells teas (many 100's of varieties) but also serves tea. Caius had Scottish Tea (very strong) with a chocolate tart and I had Earl Grey Jasmine (it was so light and delicate) with brownies and cream (yum) - we sat outside and enjoyed chatting! We bought Scottish tea and Lapsang Souchong tea to take home. Afterward we went to a craft shop nearby to purchase velvet ribbon and lace (for my project!!) and stopped off all the Olde Lolly Shoppe!!! Trivia
I thought this was a great invention - I have a cat that also likes to sit on my keyboard or mouse!!
Jo,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your week. If you are tired of heat, you can send it my way, and then you can have the constant cold and foggy days that I am having over here. :)

Hi Jo,
ReplyDeleteI liked reading about what's going on in your life. So your kids are getting ready for school to start, and here in California the kids will be out for summer break in early june :o).
It has been warm here in Southern California. I wish it were cold and wintery, like it should be in January.
I love the "I love my computer...." that is too cute.
God bless you
So much fun to see how things are different in different parts of the world...well today was in the high 70's, which is warm for our January....but not time to put out tomatoes yet. Sounds like a great time with your son...they grow so fast and each moment is so precious.
ReplyDeleteI loved hearing about your week Jo especially the part about going out to tea with your son, how cool!
ReplyDeleteI can hardly believe another week has already passed. This year is just flying away already! It sounds like you have had a very enjoyable week (apart from the heat - on which topic I agree with you, this week was not fun, and from the looks of it next week might be worse)... Your morning tea on Friday sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI also like that verse you put in your post. It will be a wonderful time being with Him!!
Jo, it's very hot here too!
ReplyDeleteThe teahouse sounds wonderful-I love earl grey!
What a great tip about the crusty bread - thanks!
blessings..Trish
I'm not a cat owner but I do love that cat contraption!
ReplyDeleteAlso love the quote. It is amazing how many friends we make over the net, isn't it?
Your little tea party sounds wonderful. I wish we had more tea shops in this part of the world, but alas. Most Americans are too addicted to coffee to worry about any tea.
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you that I love the last image in this post. Isn't it marvelous what sorts of friendships we make through this funny thing called the internet?
