Love not the world

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

1 John 2:15-17

  1. Just spent the morning translating these verses from the Greek - the "world" is everything - the world the universe and everything - quite thought provoking - not much will remain. David

  2. This is a very interesting passage... And this command is such a hard one for people to obey, especially with all the pleasures of this world pulling from all directions, and such a great emphasis of life being on those pleasures in our society... I think there is a constant need for reminders of this passage.
    Beautiful picture!! :)

  3. Like Clara, I find it a hard one to obey. Especially with our beloved families, our chldren. People and relationshhips are the ties that bind. It is very hard not to be bound to this world. Thanks for the reminder to set our hearts on heavently things.
    Have a good week.

  4. Temptations around us all the time, it can be so hard to say no and walk away - of course Satan doesn't want us to walk away so finds cunning ways of keeping us with the world.

I struggle with every day that which is why I was reading 1 John last night before I went to bed. These are very good verses to read regularly.

  5. I love the whole book of 1 John. Even harder to do, is the following verse:

    1 John 3:23
23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and LOVE ONE ANOTHER, as he gave us commandment.

Loving one another is not an option, but a commandment, and evidence that He indeed indwells us.

Satan knows there is more than way one to keep us aligned with the world's ways... if he can't get us via fashion, and other obvious wordly things, he can get us to treat each other no better than the world treats it's own... by causing us to mistreat, use, gossip, pull down etc etc.

That is why He instructed us via His Word in Matt 22:37-39
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

Thank the Lord, we have the Holy Spirit, Who leads us into all Truth...
