Spring has arrived . . .

Spring in all her glory

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.  ~Anne Bradstreet

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.  ~Margaret Atwood

I spent my weekend gardening, motivated by the glorious weather and by the end of the day I had plenty of dirt under my fingers!! The garden was in much need of cleaning up after winter - pruning back the frost damaged plants (still more to do but the garden bin is full), weeding and a general cleanup.  I also planted 3 pots with pansies which will add colour to the garden in the coming months and some more spinach.  In early October we are having bark mulch delivered so I need to have the garden ready by then.

I know it is August when I see all the wattle in flower and what a gorgeous colour it is. Along many of our roads are wattle shrubs and how they brighten up a normally drab drive to work.  However DH does not not like wattle at all - HAYFEVER. He couldn't understand why I wanted to take a photo of this "horrid" plant and put in on my blog!!   In fact he isn't a fan of spring at all.

I really wanted to include some daffodils from my garden but none of the photos looked any good and I only have a few dozen - so these are not my daffodils (link) but you get the idea!!

So to all those living in Australia - welcome to spring

  2. I LOVE Spring and love the weather, the flowers, the possibilities (especially in the garden)... :)
Dan is experiencing an increase in hayfever - not a fun time of year in that respect! :(

  4. Glorious Spring pictures.
My hubby is a "sneezer" too but we have no garden so it doesn't trouble him too much :-(
My son had a wonderful time in Canberra and found the weather very pleasant while they were there.

  5. The wattle you featured is the worst! It just stinks! But it doesn't cause sneezes, so that's OK. What I can't stand is the jasmine over the back fence - ugh! When you are pregnant and breastfeeding you can't take anything to help you either, so you just got to battle on. I enjoy it when the jasmine dies =)

  6. So pleased your son enjoyed himself. The weather has been lovely and warmer then a few months ago.

  7. Bets, I love the smell of Jasmine and have one near my garage that releases a wonder smell in summer. But I'm not a suffer of hay fever.

  8. There's nothing like the changing of the seasons to remind us of God's consistency. I'm all atwitter at the thought that fall and then winter are on the way here. I am not much of a summer girl, and always look forward to cooler days and snow. In fact I had my first cup of hot tea in a few months last night to celebrate the cool evening!

  9. Bets - so sad your attitude.
    The photo's are superb.
The flowers are also pretty good to have in the garden.
I have never noticed wattle being particularly smelly.
I too suffer hayfever, but to have God's art in ones garden, is worth more than suffering hayfever!!! Does it not make one see how sin (hayfever) causes problems (inability to enjoy all flowers), that detract us from God??

Canberra does have some beautiful gardens!

  11. Hi Jo,

Your photos are beautiful!! What a pretty spring you're having. We are about to enter the fall season here in the U.S., and it seems so strange to think about spring. We've had a very hot summer, although not so hot in North Carolina as in many other states.

This is the first time I've visited your blog. I enjoyed your post very much. I've heard of wattle, but had no idea what it looked like. It really is beautiful. I can sympathize with your husband; my fall allergies are already making me miserable. Have a great week!
