Nursey Sale and other things

My local plant nursey is having a 20% sale this weekend, perfect time to buy everything I need for the vegetable garden - so I bought and planted the following:
  • Strawberries (taking the number of plants to 10)
  • Beans (2 punnets)
  • Zucchini (2 punnets)
  • Pumpkin (2 different types)
  • Cucumber (2 punnets)
  • Capsicum (large and mini yellow ones)
  • Mini daisies (annuals) (2 punnets)
  • 2 large daisies - bright yellow
  • 1 Summer Wisteria for a large pot
They are now all in the ground, fertilized and watered.  Now I sit back and wait . . . well, not quite. Probably planted far too much, but thats ok, I will share it around!  Yesterday the tomatoes finally went into the garden bed as it doesn't look like we will get any more frosts this year.

So now I am off to have my lunch (leftover pasta) and perhaps do this afterwards (or read) - on the couch and not the snow.  I just had to use this photo as it was SO CUTE.

Once I have had that rest!! I have some ironing to do . . . some skirts came in the mail from "New Creation" today and before I can wear them they need a very good iron.  For ladies in Australia who can't sew and want long modest skirts this online shop sells beautiful skirts.  And they even managed to reduce the cost of postage for me which I was very impressed with.

What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. Very nice, Jo!! That's a lot of strawberries!! I've been thinking I need to get some more strawberry plants - we only have one that is producing healthily... Definitely nowhere near enough strawberries for our family!! We also have more work we need to do in our flower gardens (a lot more work for what I envision when it's all done), but we're taking that slowly - the vegie garden has priority!

I'm wondering how you're fitting all the rest of your vegies etc in your garden!?! How many were in each of the punnets?

Isn't it SO exciting to grow your own food?? We're loving it! Looking forward to seeing more photos of your garden...

  2. Clara - I am planting in every spare space I have and using pots. I am being VERY creative!!!

Most punnets held 6 (beans had 8) and the pumpkin had 3 + 1 (a mini plant suitable for a pot). The strawberries were one per punnet.

Steven thinks that I might have planted too many strawberries, but can you really have too many!! I will just turn them it into jam if thats the case!!

It is very exciting - and what is even better I don't find this hard work as this is more of a love than a task. Do you find it the same.

  3. Wow, that IS a lot of plants!!! :) I hope they all bear well for you - do you have a spare freezer to freeze vegies in??? :)

Yes, I love gardening, although after 12 hours of gardening/preserving garden produce (today), it does get exhausting!!
