The emotion of art

I know it isn't Art Friday yet but I want to share with you these 2 sculptures that say so much with no words. These two of art works stir emotion - that is their purpose. Each piece has been created to remind us of something important. Each piece carries a strong message that the sculptor wants to share with us through this visual form. I have to say the second piece is the one I find the most disturbing and every I look at it I feel so sad.

Sculpture of the unborn child was created by a young sculptor Martin Mudaceka in Slovakia. The monument not only expresses regret and repentance for mothers who have abortions, but also the forgiveness and love of the unborn child to his or her mother. The idea of building a monument to the unborn child was a group of young women (Prayer Movement of Mothers), mothers who wanted to remember all the lost babies through abortion and miscarriage. Its a beautiful reminder of the millions of babies that never made it to this world but are with the Lord.

There are many sculptures in memory of the millions of Jewish who died during the Holocaust, but this is one I find so moving. Shoe Sculpture - These metal sculpture can be found on the Pest side of the Danube and is a memorial to all the Jews who were shot by the Nazi's and left to fall into the river. The monument contains of 60 pairs of iron shoes, forming a row of about 40 metres. Personally I find this one more upsetting than the one above, there is something very disturbing and tragic that really moves me.

  1. I'm not sure if I have the words to describe how I feel when I see each of these sculptures. I find the first one sad, but the second one gives me the chills. I almost don't like seeing it, knowing what is represented by the iron shoes.

  2. Sometimes words aren't needed... But good picture, good scuplture or idea can move a lot of thoughts and emotions.

    1. Spot on, no words not needed. But we must not forget.

  3. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words - and those sculptures produce a picture in our minds that is worth more than a thousand words, really. Both are so very sad, and yet in some ways I find the first even more sad because it is still going on every minute of every day - an unrecognised extensive murder program that so many people excuse as being their "right"... Really, what is the difference between murdering children/adults in a holocaust, and murdering millions of unborn babies, in terms of loss of life?? :( Hitler (and others) believed they had the "right" to murder - for which people judge him and his cohorts with extreme disgust and disbelief that anyone could do that... And yet everyday people believe they have the "right" to murder unborn souls every single day without any recriminations whatsoever. That is utterly disgusting.

Simply tragic - both of them.

  4. I'm afraid the unchild, which I have seen before, leaves me unmoved. I find it *cutesy* rather than really moving.

The shoes I find a nice strong statement that those lives did not end in vain; the shoes are now a constant reminder ~ & that is a good thing. we should never be allowed to forget.

  6. Jo, thanks for making the point that all those unborn babies are with the Lord. It grieves me that there are Christians who believe that babies who are aborted whose parents are not Christians go to hell. God clearly says that He does not punish the children for the sins of their fathers, Deuteronomy 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

An unborn baby has no knowledge of good and evil and cannot discern between his right hand and his left, so I believe they are not held accountable for their sin nature. Would to God, though, that all those mothers who have regretted their abortions would be born again that they might rejoice with their children in heaven!

As for the other sculpture - yes. Let us not forget.
