National Wattle Day

Link

Today is National Wattle Day - the first day of Spring.

And for those who may not be aware, the Wattle is Australia's national floral emblem and it appears on our Coat of Arms.

Whilst I am a fan of wattle - it looks so cheerful and happy at the end of winter - my husband can't stand it as it gives him hayfever (it has a very distinct smell).  So he won't be celebrating Wattle Day!!

  2. I love Wattle I like the colour and the tree form and shape but I share your husbands problem and can't have it growing in my garden, that makes me sad.

How unfortunate to have an allergy to it though! :(

  5. Jo I am so embarrassed to say I didn't know it was our national floral emblem :)
I love it too. In Sydney they seem to come out a lot earlier than spring though:)

    1. Don't be, you wouldn't be alone;))) we have different varieties here, some have already flowered, whilst others are other starting. I think I read that there is 1000 different varieties of wattle, yours probably is better suited to the warmer climate.
