To all spammers

To all those who leave comments,

Whilst I have made some wonderful friends via blogging who leave encouraging and interesting comments I have been bombarded by anonymous people who are being picked up by Blogger as spam.

If any anonymous person leaves a comment which contains a web-link to a company or business, it will be DELETED.  This blog is not here to promote business in any way and I will not be promoting online-dating agencies.  So, once again, any comment containing a website link to a business will be delete. Last week I had over 50 comments in spam, all containing website business addresses from perfume to plumbing and everything in between - most from overseas companies. None were from bloggers.  All have been deleted.

My blog is not an opportunity to gain free advertising space.

If you are anonymous, I respect your privacy, but it you can, please leave a name so that I know you are not a company trying to promote a business on my blog.

My apologies to all my wonderful blogger friends who are doing the right thing.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I would be interested to know.

Thanks

Jo

  1. I subscribe to comments on your blog so I see if you write me a reply etc... And I have been noticing your spam problem, and feeling very sorry for you having to delete the comments/deal with them!! :( The only way to stop them is to put a captcha on your blog again.

  2. That's awful! I have had some spammers in the last few weeks on my blog too. Not fun! Hope they stop for you. Have a blessed weekend.

  3. Yes, I'm getting hit too.
That's why I moderate my main blog and publish the comments after I read them.
Some Russian sites are causing mischief at the moment and others are random spambots out to generate traffic to various sites.
It's always best to have anonymous readers identify themselves in their comments!
I have also had spam show up as a comment for old blogposts this week.
I found them by checking my spam comments and am so glad they didn't get through - one was very disgusting and wicked.
I've never had a nasty comment from any of my actual readers, I moderate to filter the spambots out.
Hope it settles down for you - I know how annoying it is!

    1. Blooger is doing the right thing and filtering them so its quite easy to press delete - it does appear to have slowed a little! Quite a pain I have to say:)

  4. Thus far, I have not had this problem. This is one of the reasons why I use comment moderation, and use that annoying word verification.

I hope you don't continue to receive them. If you receive too much spam on your blog, Blogger WILL REMOVE your blog as spam from the Internet. Once that happens, you'll have to seek a request to get your blog returned, and that is a big hassle. I know this because I've read about it in the Google Help Forums.

    1. Mara - Blogger does filter these comments so none have appeared publically and I just go and delete them. Do you think the word verification stops it, did you find out anything about that which reading?

  5. I've been receiving a lot of anonymous spam comments to my blog as well. Most are in some foreign language or links to medication. Blogger does a good job of filtering out the spam because most of the anon comments I receive never get posted to my blog. I just get the comment notification to my inbox.

    1. Mine are from an assortment of companies which is strange - like you, none are making it through the filter.
