There is nothing to be afraid of

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27

No Christian should be upset, anxious, stressed or having sleepless nights over the US election results - why? Because the Bible tells us so. These results comes as no surprise to the Lord, as he knows all things including the results of this election. Christians need to stop being negative about the results, instead do as the Bible tells us to - PRAY for our leaders - no matter what you think. Nowhere does the Bible tells us to; hate those in power who we don't like, verbally basthose on the "wrong side" (or their families) or whinge and complain as this attitude goes against what we are asked to do.  Nor do we to pray for their demise or spread hatred and intolerance's.  We are told to "love all men".

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.
1 Timothy 2:1-3

We need to remember that both Romney and Obama are just men, frail men - they aren't God, they are both sinners (are you sin-free?), they are not perfect and should not be placed on pedal stools to be worshipped. Neither have all the answers but I am pretty sure both will do their best in their given roles.  Running a country is VERY difficult and I doubt if any of us could do it better than those elected - however we are VERY good at tellings others how it should be done! Everyone always has an opinion on how to reduce debt, get people off welfare or create jobs - all of these things are VERY difficult to achieve and personally I couldn't (and wouldn't) attempt it, could you?

I find so many people focus on the negative (complain) - but praise the Lord that you don't like in China or Iraq or Afghanistan or Syria. That you have the ability to attend church, speak out and that your government is stable and you are safe. We do (both in the US and in Australia) live in very good places, others are not as fortunate.  We need to remember these things and stop the whinging about who is in power.

Even if your current government does things you don't like or approve of - we still need to pray and remain faithful to the Lord as we have nothing to fear or be anxious about. We need to live quietly and in peace and "love thy neighbours".  And just remember, the Lord doesn't pick a party to follow, He wouldn't approve of either the Democrats or Republicans in the USA or the Liberals or Labour in Australia.  Neither side follows the Bible, and believe me, neither ever will.  That isn't how politics work and that is something I know just a little about.

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
 Revelations 2:10

  1. We get the governments we pray for [or failed to pray for as the case may be]. If we stopped whinging & prayed as we ought then even ungodly men will govern in a godly manner. It's all in the prayer. Well said,Jo!

  2. One must wonder if God was saying no to a Mormon as leader of the US. I was so surprised as to how many voted for a non-Christian leader, no matter the state of Obama's politics, policies, and everything else, at least he has not denied Christ in public life, whereas Romney lives a life of denial.

  3. Yes, we need to be praying for our leaders no matter who they are! We are extremely fortunate indeed to live in this country!

    1. We certainly are but people still complain and think the grasser will be greener on the other side and quite often it is no.

  4. I think Christians often act abominably when it comes to politics and politicians. It's like their hatred and their words and their attitudes aren't sinful so long as they are just saying those things about politics and politicians. What a shame when we are told clearly in the Scriptures: "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation". (Romans 13:1-2)
