Friday Art: Reg Mombassa

I have been a bit of a busy bee this week and have not had much time to do any blogging.  In saying this, it has been a lovely week and gone really fast. I am one of those people blessed with a job I really enjoy and working with the nicest of people.  Turning up each day is not difficult at all and therefore if I am busy at work it isn't a horrible environment to be.  We are ending the week with a team lunch at a local restaurant, sitting outdoors and enjoying some Autumn sunshine.

I haven't really had much time to put together an art page for Friday but I thought you might enjoy this link (I hope you can all watch it). It is about a forensic artist and a group of women. It was created for the company Dove and gives an interesting insight into how you see your own beauty and how others see you.

Whilst on the topic of art (as it is Friday), I came across the following art (below) at work the other day and wanted to share it with you. The work was created by the Australian artist Reg Mombassa and the the Australia Tapestry Workshop.   Mombassa design the artwork whilst expert needleworkers did the hard work and turned the art into a tapestry. Its not a large artwork, but the colours are lovely and it really stands out. The quality of needlework is very good.

I have included a couple of other paintings by Reg Mombassa, I don't like all his works (some are plainly weird), but I do like these.  For any Australian into the music scene, Reg Mombassa was a band member of Mental as Anything, formed in 1976 (the band ended in 2000).

Wishing you all a lovely weekend with your families.

And my thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been affected by the bombs in Boston and the explosion of the fertiliser factory in Texas this week.  Two very sad events.

  1. Hmm... Not my choice of artwork - I'm sure you guessed that anyway ;)
Busy weeks are good sometimes - so long as it doesn't happen week after week and we end up too stressed! So glad you enjoy your job. :)
The dove video is very interesting - makes you realise everyone has a different perception about pretty much everything.

    1. I do like the ones I selected, but most are just weird.

I was fascinated in the Dove ad how the man was able to draw those pictures based on verbal descriptions only, a talent for sure.

  2. Oooooooooooooooooo i REALLY LIKE that! It's so different and unique! That is definitely the type of things that i would want hanging up in my home -if i hung anything other than jigsaws or things that i hadn't painted myself ;-)

    1. You would probably love the tapestry painting with all its bright colours, it really was a lovely to view. How many jigsaws do you have on your walls? I love making jigsaws and only just bought a table (my sew table) that will be perfect for doing jigsaws on.
