Wearing white

Do you wear white clothes?

If you are a mum with young children and you say yes, I will think you are very brave.

I love white skirts and in the process of making one (they can be very hard to buy), however even before I have finished I have dirtied the fabric and will need to wash the skirt before I wear it.

I own 2 white skirts. Both are summery which I really like as they are very cool to wear on a hot day but they have two problems:

1. They are a pain to keep clean - I have to be careful when I wear them and where I wear them.

2.  White skirts are often see-through in bright light. Skirt 1 (below) isn't too bad as it is fully lined, however skirt 2 only has lining to my thighs (I bought it online and didn't realise it was quite so bad), not even to my knees. Therefore the only way to wear this skirt is with a long slip and skin tone undies!

Needs a bit of an iron I think!

I think Kate's skirt has been well lined

I have a number of white t-shirts/blouses and they have the same problem as skirts - being able to see through to the bra if they aren't thick enough. Its hard to find a good quality thick white top that doesn't show.  I really don't like layers on a hot summers day but I have on occasions wore a lace top (like the one below) over a white T or a singlet underneath a blouse.

Only wear skin-toned underwear under white.

I don't like the look when women (older in particular) wear white blouses that you can see through and see ever lumps and bumps underneath!

This is very pretty but I haven't seen one as nice as this.  What a pity I can't crochet.

  1. I like white, for tops especially, & often wear it to church. I will put coloured singlets underneath for effect sometimes as skin tones are nearly always synthetic & I'm allergic.

    1. I do enjoy wearing white but they really do need something underneath. Only today I saw a woman in her 30s wearing a lovely cream top - very lacy at the top which hide that part of her but the remaining top was see-through and I could see her skin and body shape, it was a little off putting. And that wasn't even in bright light.

      Have a wonderful week.

  2. I appreciate your comments about wearing skin toned underpinnings under white - I'd say also under any quite light color. I've been unhappy/saddened to see women wearing dark underclothes under light dresses and skirts (and probably other garments) where one could see the actual contour of the undergarments quite distinctly. To me it seems quite immodest, intentionally flirtatious in *some* situations I'm guessing.

I remember seeing older women wearing very sheer blouses with just a skimpy camisole underneath which showed a lot, and I always kind of wonder at that. Also, light weight skirts worn with no slip can be very revealing when standing with back light. I assume some women don't ever bother to check and see how much they are showing in some clothing when they stand in the sunlight, but it's easy to not think about. Something we can all take to heart.

    2. I'm not very brave with white. :-) I only wear solid white tops under something else, and very occasionally alone. Otherwise my whites have prints on them. I do consider a white sweater to be a staple clothing item, though, and have two. I love white eyelet - really most shades of eyelet.

I had a cute white pleated skirt when I was in my teens that was heavy enough to not be too bothersome. I wore it with a white blouse and pink sweater vest for a school photograph at some point.

    3. I love wearing white but it is just a pain sometimes! Slips are very handy and I will certainly need to wear one with the second skirt in the photos.

Sheer blouses are all the thing at the moment and yes, a small cami really isn't big enough to cover up what is underneath.

It is a pity manufactures don't make white t-shirts that are thicker as I often find these a problem,.

  3. Hello, Yes the whole white skirt or top idea is always lovely, but as you stated some real problems can really show up. I do remember wearing a white top one time with a real see through part. I had to go and buy a new top and change in my car!
So I now always do double take before I leave the house! Have a good week and thanks for my Birthday blessing!

    1. I try and stand in a strong light and see if I can see through the dress or skirt before I go out. Nothing worse than standing in a sunny spot and seeing everything from top to bottom!!

I do hope you had a lovely birthday and your day was very special.

  4. Sometimes you don't realise your clothes are see-through until it's too late - which can be rather embarrassing, IF you even realise it... I've worn clothes before that I didn't know could be seen through at all until I've gone back and looked at photos and then the flash has actually shown up more than what natural lights even have! I try not to wear clothes that can be seen through at all, and if they can be seen through, at least wear something underneath... but as I said, I have been caught out before! :/

    1. Oh, and I do like some white clothes, too - but yes, you have to make sure you keep them clean! I have some white shirts, but most of my white skirts have prints on them, I think.

    2. I've never been caught out in a photo (as Princess Diana did in her early years!) but I have been at work and realised that the skirt (and it wasn't even white) was a little see-though. I just didn't walk in bright light that day!!

    3. I was once wearing a red shirt and when I saw some photos of me wearing it, it looked like I was wearing a sparkling slip underneath - the flash caught something in the fabric of the slip and made it sparkle!!! Haha!

  5. White is lovely! So crisp and tidy. I have two white ruffled skirts I enjoy wearing in the summer. I always wear a full slip everyday, so this helps with any sheerness.
