Hot, Hot, Hotter

My favourite drink on a very hot day - icey iced coffee with lots of vanilla ice-cream!

Hotter

Ok, it is summer but 40C (102F) or thereabouts for the entire week is no fun at all. But after looking at the weather forecast I know that just around the corner (Monday) it will be down to a glorious 25C (77F) which will be more than welcome.  The poor pets have really been struggling, Ruby (one very fluffy black cat) has spent much of the week lying on the bathroom tiles getting cool, she hasn't been impressed.

However, I thank the Lord as the nights haven't been too bad and I have been able to get a reasonable sleep and the cooler air has cooled the house down a little by morning.

Thunderstorms are on their way this afternoon, not welcome as thunderstorms without rain is a recipe for disaster as we are currently seeing in both South Australia and Victoria with the many bush-fires started as a result of thunderstorms. I pray that we don't have the same trouble here as we have lots of brown dry grass everywhere after good winter and spring rains.

On a brighter (cooler) note, check out the link below if you have time, you will not be disappointed.

Gorgeous photos taken by Russian photographer Elena Shumilova.

  2. Thank-you so much for sharing that link, I'll definitely have to pass it along. It's a bit warmer here today, was actually able to sit and watch the birds for 20 minutes or so, but now I'm in shaking the chill with a hot chocolate. Enjoy your Saturday!

    1. Last night a cool change came by and dropped the temperate which was lovely but the first thing I noticed were all the birds as they were singing and flying about as if they too were happy to have an end of the heat.

      Enjoy your hot chocolate:))

  3. Those photos have been doing the FB round so I had seen them before & they are just lovely!

We keep seeing the fire on Straddie restart so we have to be vigilant as the wind from the wrong direction & a stray spark spell disaster.

    1. I was wondering how the fires on Stradbroke Island were going as they have disappeared off our news. It all looks very dry in your part of the world.

  5. Glad to hear things are cooling off down there for you, Jo - the heatwave started up here and made it all the way around Australia to you, but I think by the time it got to you it was SO much worse! We've been enjoying very nice weather here, although this week will warm up a little bit I think. I hope you all get rain down there soon to soak your parched ground. The east really needs a good soaking all the way down, I think.

We went for a drive north through the Glasshouse Mts this afternoon and there's quite a terrible looking fire up that way - the smoke was really thick. It's right near the forests, too - not good.

    Those photos are amazing!! :)

    1. According to the newspaper - this has been the hottest stretch since 1933, so pretty warm. Fortunately we had no fires in our local region which is excellent news as we have plenty of very dry grass (sad for all those areas that have suffered as a result of nasty fires). The week will be a nice change with cooler temps and lovely evenings.

My poor tomatoes are suffering for a month it was too cool and they didn't ripen and for a week they baked on the vines and even before they had the chance of turning red they got badly sunburnt. My crop so far has been small.(but tasty).
