Who's plan do you live by?

How very true.

At the end of last year I created our annual budget plan, I knew where every dollar would go in 2014 and how much we could save by December. I was pretty impressed by my handiwork. Perhaps I was feeling a little to smug. It was all going to work like clock work. Well, that is what I thought. But no, God had other plans and not even one month into the new year everything had changed.  Many things were no longer in our control and the budget, well, it was on the scrap heap. It took me a little time to realise, but God can changes a plan in an instant and He doesn't ask permission or give a reason.

He decided that my plan would become His plan. I wasn't overly happy with this as mine was pretty impressive. But now that I look back, I can understand why God did what He did.

From now on, I will leave the budget in God's hands.

Still not sure if I'm happier with the new plan, but I will accept it.

But through the process the lesson learnt has been - don't create a plan (no matter what it) without first consulting God. He might have other plans that aren't the same as yours. Even if you don't like them, accept them.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11

  1. yes, plans can very easily be interrupted, changed, turned on their heads. And it can be very frustrating. Making plans can be useful, but being able to go with the flow is much more important.

  2. You know, EVERY single time we have made a budget plan, it has been turned upside down. I begin to wonder whether we should stop making budget plans, too!!!! I think the LORD wants us to live dependent on Him, not dependent on plans or bank accounts or budgets. :) And that's just fine with me, I know He will never fail.

This blog post/topic reminds me of this passage of Scripture:
"Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil." (James 4:13-16)
God's Word is always true. :)

    1. Very few of my budgets go to plan, but this one really didn't work and I wasn't impressed. But now that I have had time to think about it, I can see where God is coming from. A lesson learnt!! I think I was a little to proud of my achievements and i think it is something we all need to be aware of.

      Great verse.
