Art Friday: My dream home

Art Friday: My dream home

I thought it would be fun to "design" my dream home based on art by selecting all the attributes that I would love to have in my home.  Of course this is just dreaming but it was fun to do.

So lets start with a white house near a lake with a lovely sunroom, perfect for a winters day. What a lovely spot this would be:)

I do love a beautiful wide veranda and this one would be perfect. Imagine the cool breeze from the lake on a summers evening.

A cosy but sunny place to sit in winter, sunny, bright and full of flowers.

Imagine this just off the kitchen, with place to sit and read while dinner is cooking and a welcoming room for eating one's dinner. It would be so cosy in winter with the wood fire and a delightful place in spring and autumn. Windows over looking the lake letting in cool air on a summer evening. This is a room that welcomes guests. The dogs and cats would just love that wood fire. I could imagine curling up with a book on the chair by the window.

Every home needs a kitchen and I do like the romance of a kitchen like this one, but I will have to admit that tucked away I would have plenty of modern appliances such as a microwave and electric oven!!

A sunny spot for breakfast.

Isn't this a great room in the evening with the family. I do like the soft comfortable chairs, big colourful rug and that cosy fire.

I do like a bright and sunny bedroom painted yellow - this is lovely.

Did I mention a sewing/craft room (perhaps I would prefer a more modern machine!!)

And a library would be wonderful.

I do love French doors and these would be perfect off the veranda overlooking the lake.

A room for resting, I could imagine reclining on the day bed with a book in the afternoon!

A window for my cats to enjoy the sunshine

Clothes drying in the sun and a place to lie on the grass and dream away the afternoon!

And every home needs a white picket fence and lots of flowers in the garden. What a lovely view.

I better stop as I could go on for ages, this has been so much fun.  Perhaps another time I will share the sort of garden I would surround my dream house with!!!

What would your house look like?

PS every home needs a shed out the back!!

  1. Something very similar to what you have just described would be lovely, but I am thankful for what I have.

  2. These are beautiful pieces of artwork, Jo - your dream house would be quite dreamy! As romantic and lovely as the thought/idea is, I'm not really one to want a house by a lake though - practicality would take over for me; I am not a fan of mosquitoes!!!! But yes - I always thought a huge porch would be wonderful (too bad they are costly), and french doors would be lovely. And the fireplace with comfy soft chairs to curl up in!
Dreaming is always fun, this was a really fun post! :)

    1. Because it is a dream home, my dream location has no mosquitoes and the weather is perfect !!! I love those old fashion verandas that wrap around the house and each of the rooms have french doors leading out to it. They are great in summer as they kept the house much cooler than our modern boxes! Fireplaces are so cosy but we don't have the room for one in our house and they are a pain unless you have other heating options for the morning when the house is cold. Dreaming in an inexpensive way to pass the time!!!

    2. Well, seeing as this is all dreams ;)... the fireplace would be perfect, because you could employ a maid to tend the fire for you in the mornings so it would be lovely when you got up!! ;) Actually, you could employ a maid to do all the things you don't want to do. That's certainly something I would do in my dream home!!!
Yes - those porches would be fantastic if only they were more affordable - they would be SO useful in Australia in Summer!

  3. I enjoyed this post so much. I also have "dream" places. I am very grateful for what the good Lord has provided for sure, however my imagination is very active. Thank you for sharing.

  4. I have enjoyed looking at all those dream home pictures. I love them all.

I think I have my dream home, maybe I could just add some special things like the ones pictured and it would look even better. Instead of a lake, I would prefer a nice green paddock to look out at rather than our dry look...I would like some french doors though, but I am happy with my sliding glass door. Feeling truly blessed with my home and all that God has provided.

    1. I grew up in the country surrounded by hills and lots of trees, so in reality i too would love to live somewhere hilly and green!! I am not fond of dry and brown, but that is Australia in summer! I am very blessed with my little home and have no plans to change it or move!!

  5. Jo... Thank you so much for posting such lovely photos. They embody all that I would have for my own "dream home". They are calming and warm, and I would take this over a mansion any day :-)

    1. I'm glad we have similar tastes - I would never want to live in a fancy mansion, they always appear so cold and uninviting, more like a museum. I love cosy and warm, friendly and the feeling that a family really lives in this home. And yes, calm and peaceful are two things I really need in any home I live :))

  9. I often dream of my ideal home...then I feel guilty for being ungrateful ;). I am thankful that we have a house at all, I just like to create beauty in my mind and as a homemaker my home is my canvas. Thanks for the tour; it was lovely and refreshing!

  10. These are beautiful
I love big verandahs all the way around the home and yes got to have a good cat window and a sunny backyard to hand clothes :-)
I must be honest and say that I think a dream home doesn't exist - once we think we've made it we will always find something to alter again lol ;-)

    1. I am quite content with my own little abode to be honest, but it is nice to have a dream which will never come true!! But you are right, most people are always wanting more and never content.

  11. I enjoyed reading about your dream home, Jo! And what makes it more special is that those images came fresh from your mind. At the very least, you have the clear picture of what your house would be like in the future. Cheers!
