Random acts of kindness

This Friday, the 13th is WORLD KINDNESS DAY and it is all about doing random acts of kindness expecting nothing in return.

A warm smile is the universal language of kindness - William Arthur Ward

There are many things we can do to bring a smile to someone face and change their day for the better. If ever single every person did one act of kindness every day, just imagine what the world would be like. And if we all taught our children to be kind to each other, to not hurt other people, to not say nasty things, to not bully — our future society would also be a nicer place to live. Sadly, we are living in a mean and cruel world where every one is looking after themselves and have forgotten how to be kind to anyone else.  Even our bureaucrats are lacking in compassion and our governments tend to be more interested in the rich and not the poor. The elderly are forgotten and the young often overlooked. We live in a society that has forgotten the meaning of kindness.

Lets start this week and make it our mission, to be kind, even to those who we think don't deserve it. Here are a few ideas to get you going:

  • Write a thankyou note
  • Send a random gift to someone
  • Surprise someone with flowers or a pot plant
  • Offer to babysit a friend's children so they can go out with their husband for the evening
  • Bake a casserole for someone tired or ill
  • Make a lap quilt for an elderly neighbour
  • Offer to do some mending for someone
  • Clean up the graffiti in your neighbourhood
  • Offer to mow the lawn or do some weeding of someone you know is unwell
  • Bake a cake or cookies and give to a friend
  • Spend time with some lonely
  • Thank your parents
  • Donate to a charity
  • Help someone lead or unload their groceries
  • Clean out your cupboard (closet) and donate your clothes to charity
  • Offer to transport someone
  • Buy a christmas gift for someone in need
  • Thank your local police or fire department - bake them a cake or two
  • Praise your boss
  • Pay for someone's parking
  • Smile at people you meet during the day
  • Give someone random a compliment
  • Take a cake to work and share it with colleagues
  • Take your neighbours rubbish bin (trash can) in from the street
  • Give away some books to those who don't have very many
  • Adopt an animal from the pound
  • Be encouraging
  • Hold the door open for someone
  • Be patient
  • Send a care package
  • Don't nag
  • Hold the elevator
  • Do you have any magazines you have finished reading - share them with others
  • Offer to teach someone how to sew, knit or crochet
  • Take a box of chocolates to work and surprise everyone
  • Offer to do the task no one else likes to do
  • Create a dress-up box for a neighbours child
  • Welcome one of your new neighbours
  • Write a blog post about someone you admire
  • Instead of donating old clothes, why not buy some new baby clothes and donate
  • Keep an extra umbrella at work so you can lend it out
  • Sending an encouraging text to some you know is down

and the list goes on and on, I am sure you have plenty of kind ideas as well . . .

    1. Someone did something kind for me today and it was nice to be on the receiving end of kindness - and know what it feels like makes you want to pass that kindness on to someone else :))

    1. Thankyou Dany :)) I was so saddened by the news from Paris and other locations where people died due to the insanity of others. If only we had more kindness in the world :)

      May your week be joyful.

  4. I'm dropping by from the Modest Mom link party. This is such a wonderful list of kind things to do.

Because this is such a great idea, I'd like to share it with my readers. I invite you to add it to my Party in Your PJs link party that starts on Tuesday evening at 7:00 (Mountain Standard time) and runs through Sunday at midnight. And, feel free to share other links, too.

I hope you will be able to participate!

  5. Being kind or compassionate should be something we do as a habit... And yes, so important to raise our children in such a way that they grow up to be kind and generous and considerate to the world around them. Little things make a big difference. Great list.
