Do you hand washing?

Who hand washes their clothes?

Do you chuck everything into the machine and hope for the best?

I hand wash my good clothes — why:

 1. It makes clothes last longer as its much more gentle than a machine.

2. It stops stretching particular with t-shirts and jumpers.

3. Removing stains is easier as you can target the spot directly.

4. Energy efficient as it saves using a washing machine for a small load which also in turn saves water.

3. Drip dying requires less ironing.

And its a bit of work out so its good for one's health — and its fun to play in water!!

Every afternoon when I get home from work I place my work clothes in this bowl and hand wash.  I do love splashing about in water and hand washing gives me that excuse to have a play!!! I never get my clothes very dirty so they do not need an extensive wash, its more about removing the sweatiness and freshening them up. It might sound mad, but I find hand washing quite relaxing!

Whilst the clothes soak in the bowl I can do other things such as start dinner — then I return to my washing and complete the job. It really doesn't take very long and it isn't painful!

I have no plans to ditch the machine, but I do prefer to hand wash anything that is expensive or I just want to last.  I also hand wash if I am away and want to make sure I return home with a bag full of clean clothes. Its a very useful skill to have and one that we all need to know how to do.

And doesn't my hand washing look like a work of art!!!

  2. I don't have a lot of "good" clothes. When I need to hand wash, I use the setting on my machine and lay it out to dry. But you have me thinking...

    1. I often drip dry which saves on ironing and for things like T-shirts, they seem to last a bit longer with the hand washing. And it's fun to play in the water !!!!

  3. I do hand wash quite a lot of hand knits and delicate clothing rather than risk them in a machine.

    1. The machine isn't very kind to delicates and even T-shirts can suffer from machine washing by pulling them out of shape :(

  4. I hand wash some things as well. Some items just get destroyed in a washing machine, so hand washing is a good skill to learn!

  5. I enjoy this, too! I thought I was the only one! LOL! There are just certain clothes that I feel deserve and need the extra attention, and it is a blessing to be able to know how to do it, in case the machine ever goes on the blink or we are without electric. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I could survive without the machine for a short time, but removing the excess water is hard work with things like towels! It can be very hard on the hands:(

    1. I washed some t-shirts today and even though one had been washed more than once, the dye continues to run, which is one of the reasons why I hand wash.

  7. I don't hand wash. I can't stand having wet clothes drying all over my house. Instead I throw delicate items in a laundry bag and wash on a gentle setting or dry clean.

    1. I hang all my washing outside for most of the year so I don't have it around the house except in winter and in winter i do less hand washing as anything drip drying takes too long to dry. Whilst I don't like washing in the house, we don't have a drier to its just a thing I have to put up with for a few months.
