Art Friday: Charles Sheeler

Image
Artist: Charles Sheeler Charles Sheeler (July 16, 1883 – May 7, 1965) was an American painter and commercial photographer. He is recognized as one of the founders of American modernism and one of the master photographers of the 20th century. Some of you might find these too industrial, they are not pretty or feminine - but I hope you enjoy looking at this type of art.

Delight yourself in the Lord

Image
Do you want to be safe from the influence, ways, and lusts of the world and the flesh? Are you living in fear of this world and what might happen? For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (I John 2:16) From the sins which so easily entangles us? T herefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.   (Hebrews 12:1) Then delight yourself in the Lord–in His provision, in His Word .  Faithfully feed on the things that possess true substance and real meaning. By taking delight in the Lord our hearts will truly find peace and fulfilment in Him and nothing else will matter or stress us.  Remember that " All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof...

Unhappy marriages

Image
According to a recent report from the UK Office for National Statistics, the number of couples in Britain who describe themselves as “extremely unhappy” has doubled in the past five years, while those who describe their relationship as “perfect” has gone down from 9.2% to 5.9%.  More than a million people in the UK are trapped in miserable relationships with their spouse or long-term partner (out of around 15 million couples) One UK poll found that about six in 10 are unhappily coupled, four out of 10 say they have considered leaving their partner and one in 10 don’t even trust their partner anymore. The poll goes on to detail the most-mentioned problems, the top five being lack of spontaneity, lack of romance, terrible sex life, no time to give each other attention and lack of time to talk. From the 1960s, divorce became much easier with changes to the marriage act and from that point onwards the numbers skyrocketed. Marriages prior to this weren't any hap...

My thoughts for November: The big decision

Image
PHOTO CREDIT:  Quentin Chester My thoughts for the coming month: Making difficult decisions BIG decisions . . . we all have to make them from time to time and most of us don't enjoy them. This month — November is a big month for some of my readers, voting in the US election. For some it is clear cut, for others they simply won't vote and then there are those who are still struggling to decide who to vote for. I agree, this one is really hard and I am thankful I don't have to vote or even think about who to vote for. As I wrote back in September, you have no reason to be afraid. It might sounds strange to non-believes, but all you have to do is " Trust in the Lord in all things " and all will be ok. This is a lesson of faith. Remember,  God’s plans and purposes are fixed, and His will is inviolable. What He has purposed, He will bring to pass, and no government can thwart His will. We must grasp the fact that our government cannot save us, even ...

Fraudulent faith

Image
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. (1 Timothy 4:1) Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long suffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (2 Timothy 1:4) **** I believe in the bible, call me naive, but I believe that the universe was created in 7 days by God —  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. . . .  Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. However there are those Christians who argue that ...

Art Friday: More countryside (Part 2)

Image
The Countryside: Part 2 A few weeks ago I share some photos of the countryside in the state of South Australia ( LINK ). Here are a few more of my trip to rural South Australia, this time on a beautiful sunny day. We enjoyed a picnic beside this little lake and after our meal, went for a stroll to look at another dam (that wasn't quite so pretty).  Later in the day we went for a drive and another walk in the sunshine.  Enjoy. So glad I didn't bring my 3 cats or one dog!!
