Once upon a time. .

Country Women's Association meeting, 1965

There was a time not that long ago
when women:

Dressed smartly to going out, even to the shop

Wore hats and gloves
(as seen in the photo above)

  Behave like ladies

Understood the meaning of modesty

Encouraged their daughters to be girls and their sons to be men

Could prepare meals for their families without
relying on take-aways or fast food

Had time for their children

And didn't hire help to clean the house

Knew their neighbours

and

took care of their husbands

Then it all started to slip away . . . when women wanted more

(image)

. . . now, as a result of wanting more . . we are worn out, exhausted, have no time for our children or our husbands, chasing our tails and getting frustrated and stressed. We even struggle to prepare home cooked meals each night.  We are trying to juggle too many things all at once - often things that aren't that important.  Its time to re-evaluate what is important in our lives.

Would you like to turn back the clock to when ladies were ladies?

PS I am sure ladies in times go by did get stressed and frustrated and worn out with life, however I think with our 24/7 lifestyle and modern technology we are on a roll-coaster that just doesn't stop.

Be still, and know that I am God
Psalm 46:10

  1. Yes, I would love to go back to the time when ladies were ladies and there was less information and technology bombarding us 24/7. I would love to go back to the time when women dressed UP to go out and about (even to go shopping) and wore hats and gloves! It would be so nice to see people having that kind of respect and self-respect to the point that they CHOOSE to cover their skin and dress modestly and beautifully.
Yes, it is time to re-evaluate. It's just not easy to go against the flow in our modern world. :(

  2. Can you ever imagine Clara going to a "do" and see a room full of ladies dress as in the photo? Wouldn't it be fun!

  3. Hate hats, hate gloves, hate dresses ~ so no, I don't want to turn back the clock. lol In so many ways life was harder. I appreciate the modern convieniences that make running a home & family so much easier! And some of us do have time for the hubby & kids. We sacrifice other things ~ but hasn't that always been the way?

  4. I appreciate a lot of the modern conveniences (I've seen my great-grandmother's wringer washer!). Still, time is important and I do miss the slower pace life used to have for many as well as the importance of family.
