On holidays

I am currently visiting my parents, arriving on Saturday after a plane trip that could have gone much smoother. My DH dropped me off at the airport at 6:00am (after getting up at 5:00am) and I boarded the plane at 7:00pm. We started to pull away from the gate when the pilot came over the intercom informing us that there was a flashing light in the cockpit and engineers needed to investigate the problem. I pulled out my book and settled down for what could be a long wait! After an hour, the pilot informs us that the light was no longer flashing but he would need to fly at a "lower altitude" and therefore required further fuel! How low was low? I prefer my planes to be at a good height, well clear of the mountains! And, whilst the plane was being filled with more fuel we were told to remove our safety belts . . . Why, so we could run really fast if the plane exploded?

Anyway, 2 hours after getting on the plane and more problems (and still no breakfast so I was feeling quite hungry), we leave the plane to be allocated new tickets and catch a plane to Sydney. Not where I really wanted to go, but no much choice. Arrived safely in Sydney and enjoyed lunch at the airport as I waited for the 12:50pm flight to take me to Adelaide. Finally I arrive at my destination by 2:00pm instead of 9:00am!!

I shouldn't complain as I prefer a plane not to fly if it has technical issues :)

I am in Adelaide for the week and I hope my return flight on Saturday goes much more smoothly.

Did you all have a lovely Easter? What did you get up to?

  2. My boys are flying back from Brisbane this Saturday. I do hope there are no such delays as we will be a bit panicky on this end.
Have a lovely week with your family.

    1. Ruby, to add to the complication, when my brother checked the arrivals timetable on the website, it showed that we were in the air and on our way. Based on this information he drove 45 mins to pick me up. I was finally able to call (we weren't allowed to use our mobiles) to say that I would late so it was a pain for him to. It was a waste of a day for all of us:(

  3. I'm glad that you survived your plane flight. Yikes! I've only been on a plane twice, and I am not very found of them. I think I would have been a nervous wreck if I had to endure all those changes that you had to deal with.

At any rate, I hope that you enjoy your vacation. We had a pleasant Easter here. Take care dear friend. :)

    1. Mara, the company was very good about putting us on different flights, but this did involve a stop over. One young woman was nervous as she wasn't really sure what to do and she was traveling on her own and had to wait at the airport for 4 hours as she was on a later flight to the one I was put on. I fellt very sorry for her.

  4. Flying is not a very pleasant experience anymore ~ esp with all the security hoops to jump through. I remember when I was young the airport was such an exciting place. Now I dread flying except for the fact that it takes only a couple of hours to get to a place that takes a whole day to drive to ~ USUALLY, lol.

We had a lovely Easter with a baptism service. God was truly glorified. Hope you are well.
