Art Friday: Liu Bolin

Art Friday: Liu Bolin
Born, 1973 China - lives in Beijing

These photos are amazing.

Liu Bolin, with two assistants, paints himself to camouflage within the scene he is posing in front of and becomes the invisible man.  Each photo takes around 10 hours to set up.  According to one newspaper report (source), he stands very still until an unexpected passer-by walks past and what a surprise they get!

This one is really incredible!

Liu Bolin doesn't only do this type of art, he is also a sculpturer.

He has said that his works are a comment on man's place in society: "Each one chooses his or her path to come in contact with the external world. I chose to merge with the environment."

  2. Fantastic ability to paint things to look real, and an interesting concept. But....it just popped into my head while I was looking at these pictures, "What a waste of one's life." LOL :-)

    1. I suppose any form of art can be considered un-productive - however big money can be made from it. Van Gogh was probably considered as a bit of a waste of time as no one thought his work was worth buying - now I wish I had one of his art works!!

  3. WOW! That is really talented! Very clever. It's easier to see him in some of those than others, but very clever regardless!
I don't think I'd be that keen to have a Van Gogh (not my favourite artist or art style), however I wouldn't mind being able to SELL a Van Gogh!!!!

    1. I don't like all of Van Gogh's paintings, but when I saw "Starry Night" at the gallery, I thought it was just amazing - the colours, depth and light were all gorgeous. Its worth millions with lots of 00000 and will never be up for sale, but I would love to own it:))))
