Colossians 3

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:2

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth
Colossians 3:8

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye
Colossians 3:13

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done : and there is no respect of persons.
Colossians 3:18-25

These words from the scriptures could not be clearer in their meaning, but how many of us struggle with these each and every day.   Perhaps these words should be on our fridge doors, so every time we walk past and read them it will prompt us to behave as Christian a men and women.  We should be kind and gentle to one another, do all things in the Glory of the Lord, have a strong Christian home, husbands being gentle with their wives and wives submitting to their husbands (not as the world thinks we should) and having children that obey their parents.  And most of all set our affection on things above, not on things on the earth - how very hard this is with all the temptations around us.

  1. These are very powerful - and life-changing words - and they leave absolutely no excuse. The Bible is so black and white; God is not interested in shades of gray and excuses. To do other than what the Bible instructs us is to sin. Ahh this is so hard because we are SO human! Thank you for this reminder, Jo - you're right, we should plaster these words around our homes so we are constantly reminded of them.

  2. Oh! I so love His Word!! For in it, we shall find Life, and Life more abundant!!

It can be hard to follow, only when our flesh gets in the way. Once we bring that into subjection (crucifying it), we will find it much easy to obey His Words. It can be done because the Word says to do it. Praise God for His Holy Spirit Who leads the way, convicts us, and helps us in this process. At the end of it, is pure freedom in Him! Amen!!

Thanks for posting this Jo. I love the book of Colossians (seems to be a day of tapping into favourites lol).

    Bless you :D

  3. This pierces my soul. Of course, I know these words. But yes, you are right. There is no room for doubt, and we should not only post them on our fridge (I'm thinking that may not be a bad idea), but write them on our hearts. How hard it is to be a human, with so many tempations, as you say. I struggle daily. A constant battle: giving things to Christ, then taking them right back again. Knowing His word is truth, then trying to do it my own way. Thank you for this post.

  4. Stacey is right! As we read and learn these words, write them onour hearts, they are quickly recalled to remind us when we do fall and stumble. And we do. But God is gracious to leave us these beautiful passages, isn't he? It seems sometimes that it should be so simple, but I still struggle. He knows our weakness.
    Have a great week Jo!

  5. In case it sounds like I presume to have conquered the flesh, I can assure you I haven't lol.

What I do believe though, is that we all have weaknesses for sure, and we all stumble... but I believe that as we walk with Him, and as we are transformed by His Word and the Holy Spirit at work in us, we will overcome these things, one by one. We have keep pressing on toward the goal, the finish line, maturing with each trial and tribulation that comes our way.
I am sure many of us can look at where we were a year ago, and be able to notice some change in our behaviours/attitudes etc. I know I have changed alot and am not the same person I was 12 months ago, even 6 months ago.
It is never easy, but it is certainly do-able and very rewarding! :D
