Grandma's Apple Cake

  • 125g butter
  • 1 cup apple sauce (I used a jar of bought apple sauce)
  • 1 3/4 cups plain flour
  • 1 cup sugar (I used brown sugar)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sultanas (I add some currants in the mix)
  • 2 teaspoons mixed spice
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons carb soda
  • 1 tablespoon hot milk
  1. Heat apple sauce, add butter and sugar and melt.
  2. Lightly beat the egg and add to the mixture.
  3. Sift the flour with the spices and fold into the mixture with the sultanas.
  4. Dissolve the soda in the hot milk and add to the mixture.
  5. Place the cake mixture in a greased 9 inch cake tine and bake for 45-50mins in a moderate oven.

  1. This sounds great - I shall have to give it a go! I have some Granny Smith apples needing stewing up at the moment - I could use them to make the apple sauce! What a great idea - thanks!! :)

  2. That sounds delicious... but I am not a real fan of baking these days. You will have to send me a piece LOL

  3. I'm having some right now with a cup of tea:) so come right over!!

  4. Yum!
And your grandma is quite a dish, too!

  5. Too tempting on this cold winter evening!
I'll have to give this recipe a try soon:)

  6. Yum! I will try this, I'm sure.
