The Morning Glory

I awaken to the glory of the morn',

sunshine streaking, birds cheerfully cheeping,
another day is born.

The Morning Glory inaudibly climbs,
and shares its shy beauty, so rare.
And, we know that behind its mystery,

Our Creative God is there.

He blesses us with sunshine,

He blesses us with rain,

because it's only through the showers,
that do we not, remain the same.

So, as this new day awakens,

and I'm cradled securely in Your arms,
May Your love forever keep me safe,

and sheltered from all storms.

After I had written this I was reading Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney and she writes about sleep and getting up in the morning:
Sleep is a gift from God.  Scriptures says He grants sleep to those He loves (Psalms 127:2), and He makes our sleep sweet (Proverbs 3:24).  Sleep is a sweet restorer of physical strength.  Thus we must make sure to get enough sleep daily so that our bodies are fully replenished with the strength they need.
God  has designed our bodies to require sleep . . . our temptation related to sleep is not to get too little but to get too much.  Proverbs 20:13 has some direct words for those of us (me) in this category: "Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty ; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread."
I do love my sleep, not that I sleep-in until midday (on weekends I am usually up by 8:30am feeling quite happy) - but I do not jump out of bed with joy during the week, rather crawl out relucantly, feeling grumpy.  I don't really feel much like "My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. (Psalms 5:3).   It is something I really need to work on, it is going to take a lot of effort and prayer.

The verse below is for my sons who aren't always keen about getting up in the morning  - this should be above their beds!!

How long wilt thou sleep , O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?  Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep. Proverbs 6:9-10

Good morning to all those in Australia, it is probably some other time in other parts of the world!  P.S. welcome to October.

  1. Good morning, Jo! :)

I have the opposite problem regarding sleep... I enjoy life and my days so much that I'm often tempted to get too LITTLE sleep! Sleeping in late/getting too much sleep feels like a waste of time to me and I start getting irritable if I spend too much time in bed!!!

Regarding October... this month comes with mixed feelings. My baby turns 5 this month - growing up SO fast! :(

  2. Clara - my baby turns 18 this month and that is quite sad, now almost an adult:( Your baby and mine celebtrate the same day!

I don't like wasting time sleeping when I am on holidays, every moment is precious!

  3. Good morning friend! And it IS morning, but I'm just heading to bed, lol.
I think that would have been a good verse to put above my son's bed as well...but he is always up early these days. :)
Thank you for sharing that beautiful poem and of course the word of God which is such a beautiful way to go to sleep! :)

  4. I love sleeping but I don't think I get enough... love sleep-ins but rarely ever get one... comes with the territory of having a night shift working husband.

I do love the hours of the early morning, when the sun is just rising... so quiet and peaceful.

    Happy October to you also!

  5. Jo this is such a beautiful poem with a gorgeous painting. I have a young daughter so sleeping in is a rarity. I love the mornings so quiet and peace but it isn't always easy to jump out of bed!!

    Have a beautiful weekend. xxx
