The Simple Woman's Daybook #4

Outside my window - overcast after a sunny day, rain has been promised.  Warm

What am I thinking - how lovely it has been spending 2 hours with my elderly neighbour, enjoying a cup of tea, a mince pie and chatting.   She showed me some of the Christmas presents she has bought for her grandchildren and she has given me some ideas.

What am I thankful for - that my husband and sons have safe jobs that when they go off to work, they are more than likely to be coming home in the evening.  Thinking of the 29 miners who have died doing their job at the Pike River mine in New Zealand.  How harrowing it much be for the families who have lost loved ones.  Mining is such a dangerous occupation, but we use so much of this natural resource I am sure we don't think very often of the men who dig it all up for us and the dangers they face.

What am I wearing - demin skirt and red/white t shirt.

I am going - nowhere, been out this morning to buy a few things + food.  Bought a handbag yesterday afternoon, not quite what I wanted but it will do the job!!

I am reading -I have just started "The Christian Atheist: Believing in God but living as if He doesn't exist" by Craig Groeschel.  My mum recommended it as she thought it was very good. When I finish reading it I will write a story on it.

From the kitchen - about to peel some potatoes for dinner to have with lamb sausages and salad.

Around the house - clean, all done this morning. DH brought the washing in whilst I was next door with my neighbour.  Ruby helped me clean the bathtub by playing in the water!!

What can I hear - silences and bird singing.

A few plans for the rest of the week - I am off to see family from Wednesday, away from home for a week and a half. Will be spending time with my parents, brothers and my cousins. Looking forward to it all.

My picture of the day - "Bottlebrush", the colour is very red and looks lovely in the garden. The butterflies have been enjoying it.

Verse of the day
Abstain from all appearance of evil. (Thessalonians 5:22)
Sounds easy, but is so difficult at time.  It takes real effort.

  1. Sounds like you've had a really nice day! :) That photo is gorgeous - the colours are brilliant!
That verse is a very powerful one isn't it - it doesn't give anyone any room for excuses at all. It is absolute, no grey shades. Hmmm... food for thought, that's for sure! :)
Enjoy your time with family - we're really looking forward to seeing you!! :)

  2. I'm looking forward to seeing you too!

  3. Love the Bottle Brush!
Have a lovely time on your little holiday break away.
Oh, how I wish I could say, "House ~ all clean." sigh!

  4. Very nice and beatiful blog :) As sunny as Your view from the window. I wish You only the best days.

  5. Jo - this is a wonderful way to do a post - it helps us all to get to know you so well. That photo of your flower is breathtaking - you must be having a wonderful spring!
