It is that time of the year again

It is that time of the year again - on Friday I am off to the Lifeline Secondhand Book-fair.  Twice a year (March and September) I have the opportunity to spend a few hours searching through 100 000's of books for those special ones to come home with me.  I dust of my "granny" shopping trolley, put on my walking shoes and get very excited.  There is nothing better than wandering (and touching) so many secondhand books - the variety is huge and it is all in one place, what more could I ask for!!  Of all the different types of shopping, buying books must be my favourite and the one I get most excited about.  I have to thank my parents for this love of books and reading. Thanks mum.

This year I am going with a friend and afterwards we are having lunch together, so it will be extra special.

However, before I go to the fair I always go through my own books to see if I have anything to donate.  This way I can create a little extra space for the books I am bringing home and Lifeline benefits.  I am hoping to find some more old cookbooks/home management books, art/art history, photography and the old childrens classics to add to my collection.

I will let you know what treasures I find!

To sit alone in the lamplight with a book spread out before you, and hold intimate converse with men of unseen generations - such is a pleasure beyond compare.  ~Kenko Yoshida

PS Do you find secondhand book shopping fun?

  4. Here's a quote by C. S. Lewis "You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suite me." I heartily agree!

  5. That sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day. One of the highlights of my year is going back to my hometown during the library's annual used book sale. There's a huge college in town, so the local library always has a wonderful selection of donated books.

  6. Amy - these books are either donated by the public (like me) or from the libraries - the selection is just huge and are generally in very good condition. The prices range from 20 cents to around $15, however most are well under $5 so lots of bargains to be found. They also sell magazines, DVDs, CDs, games and jigsaws, old calendars and postcards etc...

  7. Coming from a smaller town we sometimes find the names of people we know in books at the Lifeline Book Sale. Once a year here. I have never seen one of ours there but we donate also.
