Thankyou Lord

Every afternoon I have to merge into a very busy fast moving lane of traffic.  It isn't something I enjoy doing and on occasions it doesn't go as well as I would like it to. As I approach the merging lane I find myself saying "Please Lord, give me a hand" and once I am safely where I need to be, I say "Thank you Lord".  I do this every afternoon as I know that I couldn't do it without His help.

How many times a day does the Lord help us through tricky situations and we completely forget to say thank Him.  Or, we say thanks hours later long, well after the event.  Do we forget to say "thank you" because we are in such a hurry, focused on other things that we consider to be far more important.  Or do we simply take for granted that the Lord will provide and that He doesn't need to be thanked for all the small things.   And when you start adding up all the ways He has help each day, it could number quite a few thank yous.

Luke 17 is a very good reminder about saying thank you.  I do not want to be like the nine who did not turn about and say thank you after being healed by Jesus, I want to be the tenth, who turned back and with a loud voice glorified God. Merging into traffic may not be as big as being healed, but it does means I get safely home to my family, I will continue to say thank you every afternoon at 4:35pm and glorify God for taking me into His care.

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed,
turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks
and he was a Samaritan.
  And Jesus answering said,
Were there not ten cleansed ? but where are the nine?
There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

Luke 17:15-18

  1. Yes, indeed. Me too. I was just telling my kids how blessed we are to have such an old beat-up van. Every time we make it somewhere and back I am thankful and thank God. The Bible says that the Lord inhabits the praises of his people.

  2. Indeed! "Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you". (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18)
We're very forgetful people - especially in this busy world. I'm thankful for this reminder, Jo - thank you. :)

  3. It's a good reminder to notice and be thankful for all His mercies. My kids always hear me say, "Thank you Lord" when we find a car park! And once my car broke down (just making it across the busy bridge traffic). As I pulled to the curb I put my head on the wheel and said "Oh Lord, help us!" The children (I only had two then) were so excited to see a friend of ours (electrician) coming out of a house up the laneway near by. Thank you Lord. He never leaves or forsakes us!

  4. A very good reminder. My husband and I pray every night when we go to bed, and I remember when we were first married, being amazed that he always remembered to thank God for so many things. I was never good at that. I am very thankful, though, that my husband has taught me to express my thanks to God all the time. Because there are always reasons to be thankful.

    1. Absolutely :)

My dad is a bit like your husband - he will remember all sorts of things to thank the Lord about.
