Letter to the editor, Women's Weekly, 29 March 1941

How very pleasant to hear a young man who wishes his future wife to possess such decent qualities. It would be a better old world if all men thought the same but, believe it or not, Mr Frost, quite a number of your sex think a girl is not a sport unless she smokes and laps up cocktails. In fact most men appear to prefer that kind of girl.  Your expressed preference for the home-loving girl came as a pleasant surprise to one at least.

Still true today.
I wonder if Mr Frost found the perfect girl that wasn't into smoking and cocktails and going off to parties.  It would be hard to find a girl these days that was home-loving.

  1. I love old magazines like these! I have quite a collection from the 1950s. They appeal to my interest so much more than modern magazines that are aimed at my age group!

    1. I grew up with the Women's Weekly and mum use to keep a pile for me to use for school and I loved looking through them and reading all the stories on Princess Di!

  4. I'm so thankful to be a home-loving kind of girl... I can't imagine how exhausting it would be to be the kind that doesn't enjoy being home!!!
How sad that more girls don't want to be home - it would create more stable families and thus improve society a bit!!

    1. Whilst I love pottering around my house (as I did this morning), as I said in the previous post I run out of things to do as my house does not need my constant care and attention and in fact I start to go over board with attention and that isn't healthy either.

    2. I understand that :) But while you don't like being home 24/7 constantly, you are a home person too, and you like to create a family atmosphere, and that's what really matters... You're not into parties, smoking and cocktails, either... Which is a relief. ;) Haha!

    3. Quite true Clara - I am not into parties (I tend to be the wall flower), no smoking and haven't had a cocktail in years:))) I am very glad, nor are my son and his lovely wife - they like to be home-bodies, in particular Tristan who really enjoys being at home cooking in the evenings!
