Musings . . . . . .

My great-grandfather on his bike - some time in the 1920's

My blog is feeling a bit old (or perhaps I am) and I am no longer as motivated as I once was - so its time for a new banner and a new focus. From now on I think I will focus on the things I like (not that I haven't been!): cooking, photography, reading, books, DVD reviews, gardening, art, the occasional grumble, current affairs and things that make me laugh (ok, not much different to before)!

Posts may not be as regular as in the past - readership has dropped considerably so no one is going to notice anyway!!

To those who may be new to my blog - here is a little update on me:

  • I am approaching middle age (whatever that might be or whenever that starts).
  • My children are grown up and have left home. One is married.  I now have free time just for me.
  • We did not homeschool.
  • I work full-time and love my job (oops, can I say that!!).
  • My husband is now semi-retired but working very hard on a number of projects.
  • I love cooking from scratch, but that doesn't always mean healthy, we do love the occasional pudding!
  • I am not bad at jam making!
  • I have 2 cats who I often chat to - they are easier than bringing up children!!
  • My husband loves to vacuum the house, so I let him!  We share the household chores.
  • I read far more than I should, but life is only lived once, so I will continue to read and expand my library.
  • I love photography and wish I could make a full-time job out of it (any ideas?) .
  • I buy far too many clothes and now take up 2 wardrobes - my husband has a little corner of one.
  • I don't sew, knit or crochet and don't have a great deal of interest (or time) in learning.
  • I am interested in current affairs and occasionally add my point of view on current topics.
  • I am a neat freak and keep my house very neat and tidy (which sometimes drives my husband spare)!! However I am no fan of housework and do it as quickly as possible - you won't find me doing housework all day!!
  • I strongly believe that boys should be taught how to cook, clean and maintain a house as much as a girl. These are useful skills for any person.
  • And finally, I don't guilty when I put my feet up and do nothing!!

Ok, that's enough about me.
If you do read this blog, do stop and stay hi, its nice to meet my readers.

  1. Oh. I'm sorry your blog is feeling old. I still come here every day (except for the odd day when I just don't have time to stop), and love reading your posts, and try to comment every day too. :) Your blog is always interesting, fun and challenging me to think or to remember or to become more purposeful. :)
In short, even if you change the way you post, I'll still be here, your faithful reader. :) I've noticed a general dying away with blogging - most bloggers went through a fad of vigourously blogging and then it got old for them. I know it did for me, too! I just couldn't be interesting enough for people to keep coming back and reading my posts, which was depressing for me.
    Anyway, I do understand. xx

    1. You are very kind!!!!! I have also seen a decline on other blogs so I don't think it's just you and me! I know I have some silent readers that also read this often which is nice. I will keep writing those ones that are challenging as I also enjoy those!

  2. I am commenting less, but I visit regularly to catch up. I think many of us who have blogged for some time are in the same boat. The lack of feedback is offputting as I think a good deal of the fun in blogging is feedback but people seem to be in a busy part of their lives. I know I have too much on my plate just now to be a scintillating blogger & I am having to be rather careful in what I say ~ which for me is like a muzzle! So I will still be here also ...

    1. Thanks Ganeidaz, I think everyone is so busy (or worn out) these days and there is a general decline on blogs. I do most of blog reading on the couch in the evening whilst hubby is watching a DVD that I am not particular getting into.

  3. I notice fewer readers/ commenters but I know that I am reading a lot less often as well. It's true I am busy but I admit there was a time when I spent way too much precious time at the computer. I am more balanced now even though it means less feed back. I like your new header. Your photograhy?

    1. I have probably reduced my reading to half what it was a year ago. I just have other activities I like to do in the evenings so something has had to give.

      Yes, those all my photographs.

  5. I know how old you really are. I thought, by definition, that middle age was behind you. What do you classify middle age as?
I may have to redefine what I class my age as, as your definition sounds very gerenerous!!

    1. Middle age starts at 50 or is it 60!! And I did say I was approaching middle age and statistically I am now closer to 50 than I have ever been. But being middle aged doesn't mean you have to feel old and over-the-hill.

    2. I would have classed middle age as 40's. As we are typically given 70 - 75 years, 40's are 'the middle'.

  6. I feel like I have gotten to know you a little through your blog and I consider you a friend, especially through Clara and Dan. :-) I don't always read here every day, but I do come more often than I comment and sometimes I poke around and I comment on old posts, as you know. :-)

I also enjoy your style of blogging and have been challenged to think about more things, and been quite encouraged and edified by things you were willing to address at times. :-)

Thanks for your work on this, but also, I understand your backing off on it as it can be too much work at times. Writing is something I almost *have* to do, so for me blogging has just been an extension of my probably-too-large web site. ;-) I will continue to follow your blog too.

  7. The Bible says that our lives are 70 years (or maybe 80), so that would put middle age at 35 or 40. So I am the one approaching middle age =)
Blogs ARE hard work. We don't do well at keeping it up-to-date, but of course I get sad when others are not regular! I like to read other's views, can be thought-provoking!
I don't have cats, so don't share your views on them, but have two children =) I think they are MUCH better, but then maybe if I wasn't allergic to cats, I might like them too =)
    Keep up the good work!
    love,
    Bets

    3. No wonder I'm going blind and hairs going grey:))) but I must be full of wisdom because isn't that's what older people have?

    4. Going blind? Wow, that sounds terrible! I have white hairs myself =)
Old age is part of the process of life, and I was thinking the other day that old age could be a bit scary =) but then it creeps on you so slowly - you grow used to it =) =) =)
