How's your day going?
I thought I would drop by, say HI and see how you were doing?
What have you been up to?
As it is a Saturday. I am at home and indoors where it is warm, it's very chilly outside even though the sun is shinning bright. This morning I popped out for a little while to pick up some groceries and visit a bookshop that is closing (always makes me sad). I managed to find a few cookbooks, one in particular by my favourite author Roxie Kelley and illustrator Shelly Reeves Smith which I can read in bed tonight. I now have three of her books. I also found a book on bread-making (to add to my collection) and one about Jane Austen and her books that looks very interesting (What matters in Jane Austen).
The chicken stock is made and in the freezer - so easy to make and much nicer than the stock you buy in the supermarket. Mine contains very little salt, but lots of flavour and a big plus, its cheap to make.
To make life easier (something we are all want to be able to do) I have decided to get our fruit and vegetables delivered. A local company visits the Sydney fruit and veg markets (wholesalers) and brings back produce that is as fresh as can be - unlike what is sitting in the supermarkets for who know how long. We received our first "seasonal" box last night (some of the fruit below) and I have to admit the quality was excellent and according to my husband, the apples he ate were very fresh. I just need to add a few extra things to the order and it will be perfect fortnightly.
I have just put the dinner in the oven - lamb shanks with rosemary and plum and it won't be long before my house smells so good!! We are having the shanks with mashed potatoes and green beans. What are you having for dinner tonight?
Look what my husband brought home for me when he popped down to the local store. Aren't they lovely. Time for a cup of tea, put the feet up and read some more of Unstoppable by Nick Vujici.

PS thankyou for all your comments on my Mother's Day post, they are interesting to read and very similar views to myself.

Good evening Jo, lovely flowers, scrumptious produce and delightful reading in store for you. All last week I have been suffering with the severe pain from an abscess in my gum, but Praise God today is the first day in 7 days that the pain has gone after seeing the dentist yesterday. I am still resting though, so today I read more of Anne of Ingleside, answered some of my fitness 111 questions and just made a risotta with roast pumpkin, silverbeet, sundried tomatoes and pine nuts for tea followed by some custard and fruit. Have a lovely evening. xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
DeleteI am so glad to hear that you are on the mend, nothing worse that constant pain that just keeps on going. I love the Anne books and really must get back to reading them. My pile of books is so high I feel that I will never get through it. My boss at work keeps adding to it as she and I have similar taste so once she has read a book, she gives it to me to read - the pile till topple over soon:)))
Have a wonderful week ahead. xxx
Enjoyed hearing about your doings! :) "Keeping Good Company" looks like a lovely book - love those illustrated cookbooks, they are so beautiful! Those carnations are gorgeous - what a sweet surprise! :) Fresh fruit and veg delivered sounds wonderful! Is it organic as well??
ReplyDeleteToday was a bit of an up and down day for me... The worst of the day was when a pyrex dish literally exploded in my oven with the door open and I had millions of pieces of glass and water absolutely everywhere - it even cut up our bamboo flooring and melted a bit of the bamboo floor! That took awhile to tidy up and the bread I was about to bake had to be thrown out too. Rather disappointing, really, but very thankful my managed to jump out the way (otherwise I would have been peppered with boiling hot glass shards!) and no-one else was in the kitchen - a blessing to be thankful for indeed!
The highlights of my day? Cuddling my baby niece, getting organised to start a herb garden with my sis, completing a custom order for my business and subsequently selling it, and doing things with my lil' family. :)
Wow, that could have been really dangerous - I have had pyrex break, but usually when I add something cold to it when its straight from the oven. But I think I have read another blog were one broke in the oven. Whilst its a pain that it damaged your floor - far better than yourself as it would have been nasty.
DeleteThe remainder of your day sounds far nicer that breaking glass. Look forward to hearing about the herb garden. Rosemary and thyme are two herbs I grow really well, nothing much seems to kill them and they don't need much water. I grew these in pots as they need good drainage. You certainly have been busy with your sewing orders and the results looks great.
No, the fruit isn't organic, but we do have a company that does organic, its very expensive. This one does deliver excellent quality and I am pleased with the results. Its just a husband and wife team and they are very nice and want to know if anything is not up to scratch so they can deal with it straight away.
Jo- it's nice to read what makes up a regular day for you---your flowers are lovely and your hubby scored big with those! Freshly delivered fruits and veggies sounds heavenly--!

We don't know what will be in tbe fruit and veg box as its just called "seasonal" so it is always going to be a surprise!! The flowers are lovely and I was very touched.
DeleteWe're having ribs with mashed cauliflower and potatoes. Sounds wonderful to have your fresh fruits delivered. I'd like to have my own fruit trees.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I might be having the baby tonight or tomorrow so you can pray for me. :)
I most certainly will and can't wait to hear the news:))))))) How exciting for your family.

Hi Jo! So nice to visit your blog again, your friendliness and warmth come through on your blog and I love it! Loved reading about your day:) we've had a nice weekend up,here too. The weather is cooling down here too! We had a lovely Indian dinner at my brothers place last night. My sister in law is a great cook and she even gave me a doggy bag so we had leftovers tonight, yum! Have a great week ahead!
ReplyDeleteThankyou for dropping by and leaving such a lovely comment:)))How wonderful to take home the left overs, often they taste even better the next night.
DeleteI have been learning to cook Indian dishes (probably not very authentic) and have found some very yummy recipes that aren't too hot but very full of flavour. I was always put off Indian food as I thought it was all full of chilli!! but it appears I was wrong depending on the region!!! My husband has been enjoying my experiments.
Yes, unfortunately I'm not a very good Indian cook at all:( and you're right, they are not all hot and spicy :) have fun experimenting! Indian sweets are to die for too! not sure if you can get them in Canberra but my Aussie hubby loves them! they are very different to the traditional Aussie sweets/ desserts.
