Whilst last week's art was all about cuteness, these are quite the opposite. I think these are beautiful in a very lonely sort of way, nevertheless I do really like them, particularly the one at the top.
I find them quite emotional and sad, very empty. How do they make you feel?

I'm not quite sure what I think about these, but I'd say more isolated than lonely. I looked up her site and she talks about ' a little more fairy tale' well I guess the best known were based on the Brother's Grimm Tales which were anything but happy. I get more a Stephen King and Alfred Hitchcock vibe from all but the snow scene and the last picture. I can almost hear the crows cawing. The last reminds me of the Wizard of Oz, it's use of colour lifts it but you can still feel the storm. Ok, I'll stop wittering now, but it's interesting work, and nice to stop and take time to 'exercise the little grey cells' :)
ReplyDeleteI love your take on these:)) It is really interesting to post paintings with one view/idea/feeling and them find out what others think - its really fascinating.
DeleteHave a lovely weekend:))
I love these! But I live in those sort of places so it's not scary. I like the space & the little details: the red flowers amongst the brittle grasses in the first one; the way the birds come in or the chook on the fence post in the 3rd. They feel light & homey & peaceful. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked them. Hope you aren't too hot in your part of the world (or too dry).
DeleteA good representation of life - it isn't always cute and bright and fun. Sometimes lonely, alone, dull, even the same. So it is good to have balance! =)
ReplyDeleteThe last one was fun, a bit of relief after the others, though I also like the first picture.
love,
Bets
There are so many lonely people around. Only the other day there was a story in the newspaper about a woman who had died and found 8 years later in her house. No one had checked on her in 8 years, now that is lonely for sure.
DeleteI see what you mean, they do have a lonely feel to them;
ReplyDeletebut I like them very much. They are very good. Several of them almost have a photograph feel to them. The fact that there is not very much life going on in any of them is what makes them feel lonely… and something else, that gives the feeling of loneliness, but I'm not sure what. I love art, and am happy to see you posting these kinds of things.
People don't generally like to be completely alone - even if they want to be left alone, they still like to know that there is someone else around. These paintings illustrate "alone" with know one else about and I think that is why they make me a little sad and perhaps lonely if that makes sense.
DeleteNot the city one, but all the others, remind me strongly of my Grandmother's home. Spending time there was the best part of my childhood. It has since been bulldozed to the ground, and I always well up when I think of that. So for me, these are both beautiful and terribly sad. I love them.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you loved them:)) memories can be painful though even when they are happy memories.
DeleteHave a lovely weekend.
I love the shabby simplicity attached to them.
ReplyDeleteBlessings :-)
So glad you like them - I hadn't thought of the word "Shabby" but that is a really good work to describe them.
Deletehave a lovely weekend:))
The city ones make me think "deserted", but I like the rest of them - they look peaceful. I do prefer bright colours most of the time, but there's something quiet and calm about the non-city ones that I really like.
ReplyDeleteI like the first one and I see it as an abandoned house. Too bad, because it's a cute house and I like the wide open spaces and birds on the line. I like reading what everyone sees in the photos! Fun! I love this set of paintings, especially the country scenes.
ReplyDeleteI just happened upon this post as I regularly search for work others have posted of mine. I wanted to clarify that they are in fact photographs. I suppose there is a lonely feel but it's not intended to be a sad lonely. My hope is that the images start a story in the viewers mind - happy maybe sad but something. thanks for the comments. - Jamie Heiden
ReplyDeleteThankyou for your comments. I love these pieces of art even if they did make me feel lonely in a good sort of way. Each Friday I share with my viewers art from around the world, I hope your didn't mind me using yours.
