Art Friday: Henry Hintermeister

Artist: Henry Hintermeister
1897-1972

Born New York (father from Switzerland)

American illustrator

Henry Hintermeister and his father (John Henry Hintermeister)  were both illustrators and they often completed works together.

Check out the impressions on the faces of each of the characters, they are full of movement and mischief.  Each painting tells a story of adventure, some leave you wondering what antics will happen next.  What is granny up to!

Do any of these remind you of Norman Rockwell?

  3. These are fantastic! I love them!! :) Yes, there is a sense in which they are similar to Norman Rockwell, although they have their own individual style as well. I love the humour in them! They also have a very nostalgic feel to them, I think. :)

    1. They are also paintings that exude activity - each of them is very busy in the sense that they are giving the impression that things are really happening - very successful and excellent artwork, in my opinion! You can almost hear the chatter of children or the sound of the planes in the sky etc as you look at these! :)

    2. They are fun and happy illustrations - you just want to jump into the picture and join in.

      Glad you liked them.

Have a lovely weekend. The weather here will be beautiful Autumn weather so should be good.

  4. These are precious. I can almost remember the books that they used to be in. They are like Norman Rockwell's work; full of story. Enjoyed them very much.

  5. Adorable! I like how in most of them an older person is enjoying children and vice versa. Older people can have so much influence on the younger generations if they (I'm talking to myself) would only enjoy them more.

    1. When I was growing up, my aunt (who at the time wasn't really related to us) use to take us on bush walks and organise activities for us children. She was and still is so good with children and knew how to create lots of fun and precious memories.

Have a lovely weekend with your children.

  7. Dear Jo, How delightful! I was thinking they remind me of the pictures in a book we learned to read from as children.
I always think of how simple and kind the world seemed!
    I really enjoyed these Jo!
I had company this last week and a terrible wind storm here, what a mess it makes in our homes.
Have a good week ahead dear friend!
    Blessings, Roxy.

    1. I do hope the winds didn't cause too much damage. Nothing worse than having to clean up after a storm. '

As children our world view was one of innocences but it doesn't take long to realise it isn't like that at all.

      Blessings.
