Our times are in Thy hand

'Rolling Hills', Barossa Valley, South Australia. Hirsty Photography

Today is Christmas Eve in Australia and its usually the time people are rushing about doing those last minute activities for Christmas Day with very little or any focus on God. Lets stop and turn our hearts and minds on what is truly important in our lives - our Heavenly Father and understand that our times are in Thy hands -- our lives -- our souls -- our all -- we need to leave entirely in Thy care.

*****

Our times are in Thy hand;
  O God, we wish them there;
Our lives, our souls, our all, we leave
  Entirely to Thy care.

Our times are in Thy hand:
  Whatever they may be;
Pleasing or painful, dark or bright,
  As best may seem to Thee.

Our times are in Thy hand;
  Why should we doubt or fear?
A father’s hand will never cause
  His child a needless tear.

Our times are in Thy hand;
  Jesus, the Crucified,
Whose hand our many sins have pierced,
  Is now our guard and guide.

Our times are in Thy hand;
  We’ll always trust to Thee,
Till we possess the promised crown,
  And all Thy glory see.

"My times", that is to say, my ups and my downs, my health and my sickness, my poverty and my wealth—all those are in the hand of the Lord, who arranges and appoints according to his holy will the length of my days, and the darkness of my nights. Storms and calms vary the seasons at the divine appointment. Whether times are reviving or depressing remains with him who is Lord both of time and of eternity; and we are glad it is so. . . . Not only are we ourselves in the hand of the Lord, but all that surrounds us. Our times make up a kind of atmosphere of existence; and all this is under diving arrangement. We dwell within the palm of God's hand. We are absolutely at his disposal, and all our circumstances are arranged by him in all their details. We are comforted to have it so.

What a bliss this is! Our times, in all their needs and aspects, are in God's hand, and therefore God is always caring for us. How near it brings God to us, and us to God!

from My times are in Thy hands by C. H. Spurgeon, 1891, May 17th.

But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand.

Psalm 31: 14-15

  3. So true, yet sometimes not so comfortable, even when we know God has chosen the path, it can be steep, rough, and God can be silent for a while. We need to learn to remain content and to trust in Him, even during our deepest and most painful moments. It is easy to say these things when times are good, it takes tough times to make it real.

    1. Very true - the rocky path that God took us down in 2014 wasn't on my plan, in fact I had planned for a very pleasant 2014 and it was anything but!! So no plans for the coming year - I think I will leave it all up to Him who knows the best for each of us.

      Lots of love. xx
