Accepting our situation

At the end of each day I thank the Lord for all the wonderful blessings that have occurred in my day, I also thank Him for carrying me through those difficult or stressful moments which aren't as nice and for taking care of all my loved ones. The Lord is good and I have so much to be thankful for.

However, I do not asked the Lord to find a way for me to give up my job and become a full-time stay-at-home wife and mother. I could of course (every night), but I believe it is important to do what the Lord has asked me to do, rather than questioning His decisions. To accept His decision graciously and meekness.

The Lord has decided that going off to work is what I need to do each day and instead of praying about being at home, I pray that He will provide me with the strength and energy to get through each day and allow me to manage both my paying job and my family. Which of course He always does.  There are days when I wonder how I managed to get through it, I know the answer to that question—the Lord has provided.

Nagging God to change His decisions (about anything really) is saying that He got it wrong, He never gets things wrong.

Ever.

Whilst a job outside of the home may not make any sense to you, it does to the Lord.

Perhaps later in life it will make more sense, or perhaps it never really will, but that is ok, as long as you do the Lord’s will. I have accepted the decision about working and in turn I have found peace in what I do and I have found that things do work out, even when at times I wonder how! Not only does it work out for me, it works out for my family too, my home runs smoothly and we manage quite well — the Lord is in charge and makes sure it all works out. Why should I question His decision considering how well He has made things work?

We should not request lifestyle changes because we think we know best.

Working hasn’t prevented me from taking care of my family, it hasn’t prevented me from cooking home made meals, taking my children to appointments, getting the washing done or the many other tasks that mothers and wives do. Let’s be grateful for what we have, rather than always looking at what we want because we think that is the best plan for us. Lets say thankyou and by joyful for what the Lord provides, even if it isn't what we had planned.

Each morning I drive my son to his place of work (as he starts at 7am) and then I go off to my job — if I didn’t work, I wouldn’t be doing this drive. Our drive each morning gives us time to chat or sit quietly — it is a special time each day. At work I can interact with others and I hope I can make a difference through my actions. I reach out and help where I can, once again something I wouldn’t have the opportunity to do if I didn’t work outside of the home. We each have special roles in life, they may not all be the same, but each are just as important.

Never look at your situation at work as a negative as it never is. God hasn't put us in these positions for no reason — there is ALWAYS a reason for everything. However, just because He has placed me in a paying out of home job, doesn't mean that I can become selfish and focus more on work than home, or decide that working late most evenings is a way of gaining a promotion to make more money.

When the time is right, the Lord will make the necessary changes —so don’t nag Him in o changing His decision now, be patient and He will decide what happens next. He is writing the story of our lives and not us.

  1. Great words! Trust and take it all in stride. I struggle with this sometimes, I'm sure we all do. Life can be so tedious. I really have to dig deep for that gratitude some days.

    1. Thats all we can do, keep on moving forward in complete trust with the Lord - fighting it won't make much differences and going against His word is not good.

  3. Yes, well said! Sometimes life isn't always how we would like it to be. But God gives us the grace and sustenance to do what needs to be done. "One day" we will be able to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle.I look forward to that. I also think by working we are being a 'help meet' to our partners, as there is a lot of pressure being the breadwinner and head of the household. Thankyouy.

    1. Now that my children are all grown up I do have much more relaxation and time to do my hobbies which is nice. One just needs to be patient and the Lord will provide. And yes, it does lift the load for our husbands too.

  4. I constantly question my work versus child care, especially as mine are school-aged and one has epilepsy. But I work part-time, from home, and I noticed that I got no hours when my kid was really sick with seizures and more hours now that I can handle them. It's been a blessing.

  5. I really needed this reminder this week :-) It can be tricky at times to find a positive work/life balance, but I do believe that when we pray about it God shows us what is right for us at each stage of our life.

    1. it can be, but it does get easier as the children get older - I think the feeling of guilt and juggling becomes way less.

  6. Whether we work or stay home or work from home it's always important to do it for the right reasons - to help our family & husband and most importantly to please the Lord. We don't need to please everyone, just those the Lord places in our life and most especially we must please Him - that always must be our greatest priority. :)

    1. And that is the point - the right reasons and with God in the forefront of any decision. And whatever we do - do it for Him and not to impress anyone else!!
